We are now looking for 2-3 Leads to Microelectronics and Quantum technologies to drive the creation of future customer and business solutions

As a Lead, you will steer the focus of VTT’s microelectronics and/or quantum technology research, with special focus on business development and commercialization of our technologies, R&D services and IP. We are looking for Leads both for microelectronics and quantum technologies. You contribute and create new commercial offerings and partnerships based on the research area’s strengths and future plans. Your focus can be for example on commercialization of microelectronics, photonics and/or quantum technologies research and the application fields vary from computing and sensing to medical, defense and space. Our customer segments include a wide range of industries including for example semiconductor material and equipment manufacturers, process developers, manufacturing and design companies. Participation in the European Chips JU pilot lines is a key focus area for VTT. Hence, your responsibilities will also include commercialization of the Chips JU results.

You will act as a spokesperson in the selected field and you are responsible for the creation of new commercially focused collaboration in the field together with national and international partners. You are a leader with a focus on collaboration networks and new business opportunities. As a member of the research area’s leadership team, you collaborate and contribute to the success of VTT, our customers and partners. This role supports line management without direct reports. The location of the position is in Espoo, Finland.

The job is located in VTT’s Microelectronics and quantum technology research area. In this research area we develop new microelectronics, photonics and quantum technologies applicable to computing, sensing and connectivity as well as to applications such as 6G, new space, defense, electrification and medical. Our commercial success in the field is based on our versatile know-how and history in microelectronics and quantum technology development, our unique research infrastructure and on our long experience of co-operation with related research organizations and industries.

With us, you will be responsible for:

• Steering the focus of VTT’s microelectronics and/or quantum technology applications research and development especially from business development and commercialization perspective.
• Actively building and looking for new commercial partnerships to develop next generation technologies with and expand our offering.
• Developing new ways of commercializing technology through complex partnership models.
• Seeking for new opportunities together with the existing research and business networks.
• Creating and nourishing national and international collaboration networks with significant impact.
• Acting as a thought leader in your own substance area and actively communicating and promoting the topic.
• Commercializing of relevant IP portfolios and contributing to IP creation strategy in the field.

To succeed in the position, we are looking for a person with:

• Combination of a technical understanding in the field of microelectronics and/or quantum technology and experience of B2B collaboration
• Demonstrated experience of a relevant field of industry (e.g. microelectronics, photonics, quantum technology, defence, space, semiconductors…)
• Ability to understand of the types of technological challenges and opportunities that enterprise organizations are likely to face.
• Understanding of the field with future developments, market needs and global trends.
• University degree in microelectronics, photonics, connectivity, electronics, computer science, physics or related field.
• Good leaderships skills and extensive business networks.
• Professional English (spoken and written), Professional Finnish skill is an asset.
• We consider experience of R&D environment as an asset.
