About the Role:
Reporting to the Associate Director, Professional and Continuing Studies (PCS) the incumbent is responsible for providing expertise in instructional design, developmental editing, project management and program oversight. The role ensures all offerings are academically rigorous, accessible, and aligned with workforce needs. The Learning Design & Editorial Manager leads the design and development process in collaboration with subject matter experts, applying adult learning theory, Universal Design for Learning (UDL), and quality standards to create engaging learner experiences. By setting up and upholding program and content standards, the role strengthens Brock’s capacity to deliver high-quality, inclusive, and workforce-relevant continuing education.
The Learning Design and Editorial Manager will:
- Leads the design, development, and overall quality of Professional and Continuing Studies (PCS) programs, ensuring they reflect Brock University’s academic standards, accessibility goals, and workforce priorities.
- Lead the sourcing and quality assessment of independent contractors responsible for designing and delivering course content, ensuring accountability and alignment with program objectives and expectations;
- Ensure programming initiatives align with Brock’s strategic priorities and the broader goals of Professional and Continuing Studies;
- Engage with internal and external stakeholders, including industry partners, governing bodies, and professional associations, to ensure programs meet regulatory expectations and workforce needs;
- Advise leadership on project challenges, risks, and opportunities, and contribute to innovative solutions that advance PCS programming;
- Lead end to end design and continuous improvement of PCS programming across all delivery formats, applying a strategic lens to learner journey; mapping from initial needs assessment through to post-program evaluation;
- Apply adult learning theory and integrate Universal Design for Learning (UDL) principles to ensure programming is inclusive, practical, and accessible to the diverse needs of professional learners;
- Develop and implement frameworks for assessment and quality assurance that align with institutional priorities, regulatory requirements, and best practices in the field of continuing education;
- Lead the evaluation and refinement of course materials through developmental editing to ensure clarity, coherence, tone, and alignment with program outcomes and program goals;
- Revise and edit content in collaboration with subject matter experts to strengthen accuracy, readability, and learner engagement while maintaining consistency across PCS offerings;
- Translate complex subject matter into accessible and engaging content that enables learners to analyze, synthesize, and apply knowledge in real-world contexts;
- Oversee project delivery and timelines, ensuring resources are used effectively and programs are completed on schedule and to standard.
- Monitor and evaluate program quality and learner outcomes, using data and feedback to drive improvement and innovation;
- Advise leadership on program direction, opportunities for growth, and strategies to enhance Brock’s presence and reputation in professional and continuing education.
Key Skills and Experience:
- Undergraduate Degree in Education, Instructional Desing, English or Adult Education. The equivalent combination of education and experience would be considered;
- Significant experience in instructional design, curriculum development, or learning experience design, ideally within higher education, continuing education, or professional/workforce learning environments;
- Experience leading program development projects, including managing timelines, deliverables, and resources in collaboration with subject matter experts, facilitators, and stakeholders;
- Experience developing and applying assessment frameworks, evaluation strategies, and quality assurance measures for programs or courses;
- Background in supporting or guiding faculty, facilitators, or subject matter experts through the design, development, and delivery of programming;
- Experience in adapting content for multi-modal delivery (online, blended, hybrid, in-person) and working with learning management systems and/or e-learning authoring tools;
- Demonstrated expertise in developmental and content editing, with the ability to revise and refine complex subject matter into clear, engaging, and learner-centered materials;
- Proven ability to apply adult learning theory, Universal Design for Learning (UDL), and accessibility standards (e.g., AODA) to create inclusive and effective programming;
- Experience working with non-credit, professional, or workforce-oriented programming, including micro-credentials, certificate programs, or custom training initiatives;
- Strong track record of relationship management with internal and external stakeholders, including industry partners, accrediting bodies, and professional associations;
- Strong project management, organizational, and problem-solving skills with the ability to balance multiple priorities;
- Ability to evaluate and integrate emerging tools, including AI in education, to enhance learning and address instructional challenges;
- Skilled in analyzing learner needs and feedback to adapt course content and delivery methods;
- Ability to develop innovative and practical strategies that balance pedagogy, technology, and accessibility;
- Professionalism, sound judgment, and a demonstrated commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion.
Preferred or Asset Skills:
- Knowledge of quality assurance frameworks or program accreditation processes;
- Project management experience: certification (e.g., PMP or Agile);
- Certification with the Ontario College of Teachers;
- Membership in other professional associations related to continuing education, instructional design, or editing;
- Experience working with Brightspace (D2L).
Salary and Total Rewards:
- Job Grade M, Salary Scale ($73,245-$118,776);
- Target Hiring Range: $73,245-$82,000
- This is a permanent position that includes:

- Vacation: Up to 3 weeks per year, in addition to university holidays.

*The final salary is based on experience, internal equity, and budget considerations within the target hiring range.

Pay: $73,245.00-$80,000.00 per year
