- Works in-person with students, either one-to-one or in small groups, to help them attain a deeper and more substantial command of assigned subject matter, and to develop and apply effective learning and critical thinking skills. Provides tutoring sessions and activities, outreach events and activities, and daily operations as needed.
- Provides academic support for and in Columbus Promise English cohort classrooms in collaboration with course instructors. Examples of activities include attending class meetings; consulting with instructors about course topics; and providing in-class guidance. Provides direct support to students in learning and understanding concepts, assignments, and material in the tutor’s area of expertise.
- Communicates with Columbus Promise and Tutoring administrators regarding student progress and needs, and generates reports as requested by supervisors.
- Effectively communicates to students using a variety of methods and instructional tools.
- Maintains documentation of all tutoring and coaching interactions. Generates reports, provides information, and data that can be used to facilitate student learning to program administrators, and others as requested. Uses the College’s reporting and record-keeping software daily.
- Works collaboratively with the English Department and tutoring administration, staff, and tutors to develop strategies and materials for effective tutoring and learning skills support.
- Provides information support to other LSS IIs and Peer Learning Success Leaders. Develops and maintains excellent working relations with students, staff and internal contacts as a Columbus Promise team member. Collaborates with Tutoring staff and campus partners.
- Maintains thorough, current knowledge of academic support and success strategies and best practices; multiple instruction methodologies to accommodate various styles of learning and diverse student needs; and assigned subject matter. Participates in training sessions and professional development activities.
- Fosters and maintains a safe environment of respect and inclusion for faculty, staff, students, and members of the community.
- Regular, predictable, and punctual attendance is required.
- Manages multiple assignments of varying complexity while meeting federal as well as internal regulations and procedures, with the ability to adapt to changing needs of the College and business partners.
- Hours include occasional evenings and Saturdays based on operational needs.
- Meets in-person at designated times and locations. Works with multiple students and with other tutors present in a shared space model.
- Bachelor’s Degree or higher degree in designated field of study.
- Six (6) months of experience teaching, tutoring, supplemental instruction experience, or equivalent related learning support experience.
- An appropriate combination of education, training, coursework and experience may qualify a candidate.
- State Motor Vehicle Operator's License or demonstrable ability to gain access to work site(s).
Skilled in: maintaining good public relations; effective communication and relationship-building strategies; event planning; problem solving; customer service; operating general office equipment; one-on-one and group college readiness instruction; creating and maintaining reports that track program results; execution of work plans; problem solving; attention to detail; maintaining documentation and records; general typing; application of job software programs and applications, and standard office practices and procedures; interpreting and implementing federal, state and common policies and procedures.
Ability to: effectively work with persons of varying backgrounds; work independently demonstrating initiative; actively listen and provide empathetic support; develop and maintain effective working relationships with associates, supervisors, job contacts and general public; utilize screen capture and video conferencing technology to conduct remote advising for students; exhibit a pleasant telephone manner; answer routine inquiries; maintain confidential and sensitive information; maintain accurate and complete work records; speak effectively to large groups; demonstrate flexibility.

While performing duties of this job, the employee regularly exhibits digital dexterity when entering data into computer. The employee frequently sits for periods of time, stands, and walks. Employee converses verbally or manually with others in person as well as by telephone. Vision demands include close, relatively detailed vision when focusing on a computer screen. Employee occasionally lifts up to 10 pounds.
- Typical office and classroom environment. Regular exposure to moderate noise typical to business offices.
