Te āheinga: The opportunity

We have a fantastic opportunity for a highly skilled trade qualified Carpenter to join our team as a Lecturer.

You don't need to have teaching experience as we will wrap support around you, but what you will need is a genuine passion for student success. You'll be naturally engaging and approachable and who enjoys bringing out the best in others. You'll get huge satisfaction from passing your knowledge on.

You'll spend time in the classroom teaching theory, but most of our learning is done through practical, hands-on experience. Most of your teaching time will be on building sites, or in our well-equipped workshops within our purpose-built trades building. You'll be involved with house construction, site management and building compliance.

Some of your key duties will include:

• Leading the technical aspects of constructing one 3-bedroom house per year.
• Working with your tutorial assistant to ensure student engagement in the build.
• Overseeing the educational progress of a cohort of around 30 students per year.
• Partnering with your tutorial assistant to meet educational benchmarks.
• Coordinating with the building site lead to ensure timely supply of orders.
• Fostering a positive and safe culture on the building site.

Our pre-trade students construct new houses on-campus from the ground up. They typically have little prior experience, so you will guide them through a 32-week journey, preparing them for worksite culture and teaching them foundational skills needed for their apprenticeships. This role requires significant pastoral care and is ideal for someone who enjoys building and maintaining relationships in a supportive environment, with the goal of helping young people grow in both skill and confidence.

You should have industry experience and either hold or be working toward your LBP (Licensed Building Practitioner) qualification. You will be confident in communicating with a diverse range of people and possess strong industry networks.
