At Curtin we are committed to embedding the voices and perspectives of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander peoples at the forefront of our decision-making to create an environment in which everyone thrives.

In line with Curtin’s 2030 Strategic Plan, Curtin University is committed to optimising employment outcomes for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander peoples. Curtin University considers that being an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person is a genuine occupational requirement for this position under section 50(d) of the Equal Opportunity Act 1984 (WA). Therefore, only applications from Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people will be considered.

About the Role:

Join our vibrant community at the Curtin Centre for Aboriginal Studies (CAS) as we welcome applications for a permanent full-time Lecturer position!

We are looking for an experienced educator to become an integral part of our dedicated team, contributing to the enriching Bachelor of Allied Science course. In this role, you will have the opportunity to teach and inspire students in the Indigenous Community Management & Development units and Mental Health Principles and Practices. Your expertise will help impart valuable Indigenous cultural knowledge and insights to both Indigenous and non-Indigenous learners, exploring fascinating topics such as Indigenous Cultures and Health Behaviours, along with Business and Science.

If you are enthusiastic about fostering understanding and promoting Indigenous knowledges and perspectives, we would love to hear from you!

Your responsibilities will be, but are not limited to:
  • Design and conduct innovative learning activities (online, distributed, or face-to-face) to enhance student engagement and achievement, tailoring support based on individual learning needs.
  • Collaborate with colleagues in the development of curricula and learning materials, while staying updated on discipline theory and practice to inform teaching strategies.
  • Assess student learning, provide constructive feedback, and supervise honours or postgraduate students, ensuring a supportive academic experience, especially for first-year students and those from diverse backgrounds.
  • Engage in professional development and administrative responsibilities related to teaching, aiming to foster an inclusive environment and facilitate successful transitions for all students.
Who we are looking for:
  • A PhD or equivalent in relevant discipline.
  • Established high-level teaching skills and experience with a reflective approach in teaching delivery.
  • A strong understanding of pedagogical theory and contemporary educational practice relevant to the discipline and fostering a reciprocal approach.
  • An emerging record of contribution to scholarship in teaching.
  • Course coordination experience.
  • High-level communication, interpersonal and organisational skills with a commitment to the development of a collegial and supportive working environment and the ability to interact with students and staff with cross-cultural sensitivity.
* If your qualifications or experience look different from what we've described above, but you feel your skills and potential are a match to the capabilities we need, please apply. We are looking for diversity in experience, thought and approach.

Role Requirements:
  • Curtin University considers that being an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person is a genuine occupational requirement for this position under section 50(d) of the Equal Opportunity Act 1984 (WA). Therefore, only applications from Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people will be considered.
  • Successful applicants are subject to a National Police Clearance, and background, integrity, and reference checks to Curtin’s satisfaction.
  • As a continuing (permanent) role, you will require permanent work rights in Australia to be considered.
