About the Role:
The School of Earth and Planetary Sciences (EPS) is seeking a passionate and knowledgeable academic, with proven teaching skills and experience in Planetary Science and STEM Methodologies to develop high quality teaching programs in the new Space & Planetary Sciences major within the Bachelor of Science and post-graduate course delivery. This will include lecturing at various undergraduate and postgraduate levels, and supervision of student research projects at undergraduate, Honours and Master’s level. You will also have the opportunity to develop your own research program.

Your responsibilities will include:
  • Actively contribute to the organisation, planning, delivery and evaluation of teaching in our new Space & Planetary Science major, including Astrobiology.
  • Demonstrate best practice, innovative teaching methods which enhance the student experience.
  • Assess and provide feedback on student work, contributing to curriculum innovation and content design.
  • Actively engage with the Planetary Science Discipline and promote a positive and inclusive work environment.
  • Apply relevant health and safety standards, including required responsibilities of Supervisors for practical classes and research students.
  • Promote the Planetary Science Discipline within and outside the University community by engaging in service and leadership roles, as well as outreach activities.
  • In all interactions with staff and students, demonstrate the University values of integrity, respect, courage, excellence and impact.
Who we're looking for - Selection Criteria:
Essential Criteria:
  • PhD in Planetary Sciences or a related discipline and at least two years of post-doctoral research or industry experience
  • Demonstrated high level teaching skills and a demonstrated reflective approach to teaching delivery.
  • A strong understanding of pedagogical theory and contemporary educational practice relevant to the discipline and a record of contribution to the scholarship of teaching in the discipline.
  • Demonstrated ability / experience / capacity to undertake unit coordination role, including for large units.
  • Demonstrated ability or potential to supervise undergraduate and postgraduate research projects
  • Demonstrated high level communication and interpersonal skills with a commitment to the development of a collegial and supportive working environment and the ability to interact with students and staff with cross cultural sensitivity.
  • Demonstrated commitment to integrity, health and safety, equity and inclusivity.
Role Requirements:
  • As this is a continuing position, you will require permanent work rights in Australia to be considered. Please note that visa sponsorship will not be supported for this role. Domestic relocation support will be considered.
