Legends Racer
Position Summary:
Are you outgoing, confident, friendly, enthusiastic, and love interacting with people? If so, the Arizona Diamondbacks want you to join our seasonal entertainment team, as a D-backs Legends Racer. The Legends Race has been a fan favorite at Chase Field since 2010. At the end of the 5th inning, fans get to see Luis Gonzales, Mark Grace, Randy Johnson, and Matt Williams race from the visitor’s bullpen in right field along the warning track past the visiting dugout to the finish line behind home plate. The Legends not only race in the 5th inning, but also create & implement skits for the race related to themes, greet fans at the gates before games and participate in the 7th inning Stretch with fans after the race.
Responsibilities:
  • Pre-Game:
    • Attend pre-game meeting – receive game duties and instructions as well as review all necessary items.
    • Greeting and welcoming fans at gates as they enter Chase Field.
    • Execute assigned pre-game show duties.
  • In-Game:
    • Take part in the Legends Race during the 5th inning every game.
    • Act as a Legends handler, during home games when not scheduled to race.
    • Participate in the 7th inning stretch following the race from our Upper Deck with Organist.
Additional duties as assigned by the Game and Event Presentation Manager

  • Communication: Communicate respectfully with peers and fans of all ages and demographics. Have a willingness to initiate conversation with fans.
  • Accountability: Be reliable and take ownership of your work.
  • Conflict Resolution: Use your problem solving and decision-making skills in a fast-paced environment during stressful situations while displaying first class customer service.
Minimum Requirements:
  • Must be 18 years of age.
  • Must successfully pass a criminal background check.
  • Must have a High School Diploma or equivalent education
  • Athletic or Mascot background is preferred, not required.
  • Candidates must be willing to commit to a minimum of 40 Diamondbacks home games during the regular season (including weekdays and weekends).
  • Candidates must be available for in-person training and orientation sessions at Chase Field before the season starts.
Physical Demands
  • Ability to be on your feet for long periods of time.
  • Ability to wear a 45-pound costume for long periods of time.
  • Ability to run from right field to Homeplate (approximately 115 yards) in a 45-pound costume.
  • Physical requirements include running, walking, standing, bending, twisting, lifting, grasping, etc.
Tryouts / Interview
Candidates interested in trying out for The Legends Racers must attend try outs on February 2nd, 2025 at Salt River Field. Applications must be received by January 13th, 2025. Tryouts are by invite only.
