The National Library of Australia is seeking to fill the integral role of Coordinator, Library Reading Rooms (APS5) in the Reader Services Section in Engagement Branch.

Join the team that brings the National Library’s reading rooms to life. As a Coordinator, Library Reading Rooms, you’ll be helping people explore the Library, discover collections and feel at home in our spaces. This onsite only role is perfect for someone who thrives in a lively, people-focused environment.

What You’ll Do
  • Support visitors as they navigate the Library’s collections, equipment and research tools
  • Keep the reading rooms safe and organised
  • Provide warm, knowledgeable reference assistance in person, online and by phone
  • Lead and support staff during after-hour periods, ensuring smooth, high-quality service
  • Work closely with security to maintain a safe and welcoming environment

Working Arrangements
This part-time role primarily involves evening shifts (from 5-8pm) and weekend work when the library is open. Flexibility to increase hours may occasionally be required to meet operational demands such as planned leave, including occasional daytime shifts. The minimum commitment is 19 hours per fortnight, comprising two evening shifts per week and alternate Saturdays.

Your Expertise
To excel in this position, a background in Information Management, Arts, Humanities, or Social Sciences is essential.
