Light Vehicle Apprentice Technical Trainer

We are currently recruiting for an experienced light vehicle apprentice technical trainer to join our team based in Newcastle under Lyme

Our provision offers a variety of excellent learning vocational and academic environments to support the student’s development in a Good OFSTED rated setting. The role will require you to quickly build engaging relationships with our current cohort of apprentices currently studying Autocare L2 standard and MET level 3 standards.

The role:

  • To plan, prepare, deliver and evaluate a course(s) of learning for learners as set out in the contract of employment to the agreed number of hours and weeks.
  • To provide detailed syllabus/course outline information and an initial scheme of work for each course before commencement and update/maintain them as part of the course documentation files.
  • To prepare appropriate plans and learning materials for each session, to make them available in advance for monitoring or lesson observation visits and to maintain them as part of the course documentation files.
  • To give subject specialist information, advice and support to learners as part of teaching duties, including providing learners with advice on progression, either within Martec or at another establishment.
  • Deliver Information, Advice and Guidance to learners within the teaching class. Give further support where needed and record on pastoral log.
  • To monitor, mark and assess learners’ work, in line with Martec marking policy, and progress and maintain such records as appropriate and to prepare learners for exams and accreditation. To aim to return work within 10 days as appropriate.
  • To complete review documentation and complete triparty reviews in the workplace between the apprentice, their work based mentor acting as the representative of Martec training in a timely manner.
  • To mark the register accurately at the start of each session and use the register in the event of a fire or other emergency.
  • To monitor and evaluate courses and to provide feedback to the Centre Head and/or Curriculum Managers as requested, thus taking responsibility for the quality of your teaching.
  • To ensure that all equipment and facilities are used appropriately and safely.
  • To ensure that the post holder pays due regard to and fully supports Martec’s policies, including Equality & Diversity, Health & Safety, Quality Assurance, etc, and carry out the duties required.
  • To ensure continuing professional/curriculum development and to participate in training where appropriate, keeping up to date with your own subject(s) as well as national and local developments in learning.
  • To support with invigilation for other subject areas, and take part in invigilation training.

To carry out other such duties as may be required from time to time by Management

Tutor Skills & Competencies:

  • Teaching qualification* appropriate for working in Post 16 Sector, and/or willingness to undergo further training.
  • Experience of teaching/training or working with students aged 16+.
  • An understanding of the principles underpinning teaching post 16 i.e. planning, delivery, assessment and evaluation of learning.
  • An awareness of different learning strategies and teaching methods suitable for teaching a diverse range of abilities.
  • Ideally qualified to Light Vehicle level 3 qualification
  • Relevant trade experience within the automotive repair environment

Personal Requirements

This person will need to be a friendly and warm person with the knowledge and skills to deliver a range of qualifications to apprentices at a variety of stages of their apprenticeship journey. You will need to be confident and have great communication skills. You must have up to date technical knowledge and embrace new learning to keep your trade knowledge relevant. You need to be receptive to the business needs and encourage new opportunities for Martec training to develop. You will ideally have previous experience teaching apprentices up to level 3 and be confident to do so.
