We are seeking an experienced Live Broadcast Technical Supervisor and Vision Mixer to join our live operational broadcast team, working across multiple production galleries to deliver live vision mixing duties cutting live feeds.

The successful candidate will supervise and mentor team members, monitoring performance, driving quality standards, resolving issues in real time, and providing direct operational duties and support — including vision mixing, robotic camera operations, and other gallery functions. This role will be required to assess and supervise teams with cross-functional duties to provide quality assurance and control for live broadcast operations.

You will also oversee technical setups in live, mission-critical broadcasting environments, liaise closely with engineering teams to troubleshoot issues, and ensure that broadcast output meets safety, technical, and editorial standards. This role will require technical supervision for production gallery facilities to support troubleshooting and first line maintenance, working in close collaboration with our team of Broadcast Engineers and technicians.

This part-time, fixed-term role therefore combines supervisory oversight with hands-on operational expertise to ensure the highest standards of live broadcast delivery.

This position will work alongside the management team and other senior operational staff members as necessary. While the role is operational and technical, it also requires a strong hands-on leadership experience and a capability to demonstrate and uphold best practice in a live environment.

Key Responsibilities

Hands-On Operational Duties

  • Step into live operational roles when required, including vision mixing, robotic camera control, and other associated gallery functions.
  • Operate and oversee technical setups in live, mission-critical broadcast environments, with responsibility for configuration, live operation, and troubleshooting in direct liaison with engineering teams.

Technical Supervision, Monitoring & Quality Assurance

  • Oversee technical setup of production galleries and support troubleshooting and first line issue resolution and maintenance in the live broadcast environment.
  • Continuously monitor live broadcasts across multiple production galleries to assess performance, track key quality metrics, and identify potential issues.
  • Implement and manage quality assurance processes to ensure output meets agreed technical, and editorial standards.
  • Identify, analyse, and resolve performance issues promptly, working with operational, technical, and engineering teams.
  • Review and verify broadcast-related paperwork, including operational records, ensuring accuracy and adherence to standards.

Process & Performance Improvement

  • Review output quality.
  • Provide regular reports on performance and quality to the service management team and other stakeholders.
  • Recommend and implement process changes that enhance operational standards.

Leadership & Team Development

  • Lead both senior and junior operational staff during live broadcasts and pre-production phases.
  • Provide guidance, mentoring, and training to team members, trainees, and new entrants.
  • Identify training needs and opportunities based on observed performance, technical developments, and future operational requirements.
  • Collaborate with management team and other senior operational staff to ensure staff development is targeted, effective, and aligned with production needs.
  • Foster a high-performance culture that promotes accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Support a positive, professional team environment, maintaining morale and mutual respect even under high-pressure conditions, and encouraging constructive communication across all operational levels.

Skills & Experience Required

  • Proven track record in live, unscripted broadcast environments, with confident real-time editorial and technical decision-making under pressure.
  • Strong leadership skills, with the ability to direct and support both senior and junior team members in high-pressure live environments.
  • Hands-on experience in live gallery operations, including vision mixing and robotic camera operation.
  • Operational experience in broadcast environments, including technical setup, configuration, and troubleshooting in direct liaison with engineering teams.
  • Excellent understanding of quality assurance principles in live production.
  • Strong organisational skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities in a compressed timetable environment.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to coordinate between production, technical, and external teams.
  • (Desirable) Engineering experience in broadcast systems and distribution infrastructure.

This is a unique opportunity to lead from the front, combining operational leadership with hands-on technical delivery, in a fast-paced, high-stakes live broadcast environment. You will play a vital role in maintaining service quality, developing team capability, and ensuring our live output meets the highest professional standards.
