Position Overview:
We are seeking a highly engaged, energetic, organized and detail-oriented Loader Operator to join our team to work on our client’s mine sites in BC and the Yukon. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of wheel loader techniques, possess excellent spatial awareness, and demonstrate a commitment to safety and efficiency.
Role and Responsibilities
- Safely and efficiently feed crushing plants/equipment with Cat 980 size wheel loaders;
- Operate equipment within the safe operating parameters as outlined by the equipment manufacturer;
- Develop an in-depth knowledge of the equipment being operated;
- Perform daily inspections of equipment as per the Kode maintenance program at prescribed intervals throughout the shift;
- Report damage or wear-based issues daily to the Supervisor immediately;
- Perform daily maintenance on equipment. (e.g. Blow out air filters, check oils, grease, check tires, tire pressures, etc.);
- Perform daily reporting of volumes processed using onboard weigh scales. Develop thorough understanding of calibration requirements and intervals;
- Help monitor operation of crushing equipment. Report operational concerns to Foreman/Supervisor;
- Understand how to read a pit face and blend material accordingly;
- Ability to maintain a level and safe pit floor so as to protect equipment and personnel;
- Follow and execute any tasks outlined by Foreman/Supervisor in a safe and timely fashion;
- Perform daily housekeeping of equipment being operated. Be passionate about keeping the equipment clean inside and out;
- Responsible to keep tools and equipment in good working order and report any deficiencies to Foreman/Supervisor;
- Read and apply Kode’s Safe Operating procedures (SOP) and SWP requirements for the operation of the loader;
- Assist crushing crew with repairs and maintenance to the crushing plant;
- Actively participate in Kode’s safety program and that of Kode clients (comply with online safety program & lock out / tag out procedures, attend & participate in daily toolbox meetings, perform daily FLHA, wear appropriate PPE.
Experience & Technical Competency
- 3-5 years of experience operating a wheel loader (minimum 844 size) in a crushing operation at a mine site or in a quarry or gravel pit applications;
- Mine Supervisor Certificate an asset;
- Proven track record of working successfully within an equipment preventative maintenance program;
- Strong understanding of the safe and efficient operations of a wheel loader;
- General understanding of mechanical functions is an asset.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Good working knowledge of construction related machinery, equipment, practices and mechanical devices;
- Proven safety record with a clear understanding of OH&S requirements;
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
- Strong interpersonal and relationship building skills, experience working as part of a collaborative team;
- Demonstrated ability to foster a positive work environment that aligns with the company's values and goals;
- A great attitude and willingness to do what it takes to get the job done and serve our customers;
- Must be willing to travel to remote mine sites and work in a camp setting;
- Ability to pass a Drug and Alcohol test.
- Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license. Driver’s abstract to be provided annually.
Union Membership: Candidates will be required to become a member of the Union associated with this position. This will be effective immediately and will result in union dues being deducted from the candidates pay. The terms and conditions of employment will be governed by the collective agreement.
