REPORTS TO: Director of Nursing or Retirement Convent Administrator

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

JOB PURPOSE: The Charge Nurse will provide direct patient care as delegated by the Director of Nursing (DON) or Retirement Convent Administrator (RCA). Charge Nurses are responsible for the supervision of a group of nurses or nurse assistants in the clinical setting.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Responsibilities

· Oversee the daily operations of the nursing staff on shift and ensure they are providing high quality care to the Sisters

· Teaching new nurses and orienting them to their positions

· Ensures that each nurse is performing their job duties effectively by providing guidance and support

· Works in conjunction with the DON/RCA to manage all aspects of patient care

· Monitors scheduling to make sure that adequate coverage is always available for shift when needed

· Will help to delegate tasks in a fair and professional manner

Nursing

· Follows the nursing and medical plan of care as delineated by the Director of Nursing and the physician

· Completes admission assessments as needed

· Takes temperatures, pulse, respiration, blood pressure, inserts catheters, measures pulse oximetry, administers oxygen, changes dressings, administer tube feedings, suctioning, heat packs, IV therapy, Clinitest, hemoccult and maintains oxygen equipment.

· Coordinates activities of caregivers by supervising, directing, assisting, and adjusting their duties

· Uses various methods to review physicians’ orders, changes, labs, and procedures.

· Updates medication and treatment list before transfers to hospital ER, completes transfer sheet, may call ER as instructed and sends charts with DON or alternate when transferring to ER.

· Completes incident report following a Sister’s fall, injury, or other episode of safety concern and reports to DON/RCA

· Send insurance card, M.A.R. and physical progress notes when sending Sister to physician or dentist office.

· Oversees and or administers medication, treatments, and procedures

· Charts on treatment forms, nursing notes, as needed

· Enters and updates accurate information in computer and prints the records for doctor visits and admissions into the hospital

· Orders medication and supplies

· Maintains equipment such as oxygen concentrators, hydrocollator, vaporizers etc.

· Attends meetings and trainings as required.

· Observes, documents, and reports the information related to patient response to DON/RCA.

· Administers medications and treatments in accordance with policy and procedure and within approved scope of practice

· Reinforces patient’s teaching of routine, task-oriented activities

· Keep records of symptoms and progress

· Answering sisters’ call lights promptly and courteously.

· Checks and helps record vital signs

· Observes and immediately reports changes in resident’s physical or mental condition to DON/RCA

· Completes shift change report upon reporting for daily duty with previous shift

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $27.00 - $35.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40 per week
