Ngā kōrero mō te tūranga - About the role

This position plays a pivotal role in supporting Māori students and to encourage their participation and achievement across all levels of study. You will manage and coordinate effective Māori student support services to all Māori students enrolled within the STEM Division with the aim of improving retention, achievement and completions. Helping to recruit Māori students is also part of the position.

The successful applicant will coordinate the Division's Pūoho Hubs and Whītiki Tauira Māori Mentors in alignment with the aims and objectives of the Māori Equity Fund and the University's strategic plan. This role sits within the STEM Division administrative team but also works closely with the Deputy Vice-Chancellor Māori Office.

Salary will be in the range of $82,795 to $94,691 per year based on skills, knowledge and experience brought to the position.

You will be looking for a challenging role where you can make a real difference to individuals as you support their needs in their graduate and post-graduate studies. You will understand the needs of Māori and have an ability to work closely and empathetically with Māori students and staff. You will be fluent in Te Reo Māori and have a sound understanding of tikanga Māori through your previous relevant work experience in this field. Ideally, you will have a background in STEM.

You will need to demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills, have good computer literacy, and have a proactive attitude. You will be able to develop and implement new procedures.

The STEM Division is one of five academic Divisions at the University of Waikato and comprises: Te Kura Mata-Ao School of Engineering; Au Reikura School of Computing and Mathematical Sciences; and Te Aka Mātuatua School of Science.
