Machine Operator Apprentices are entry-level professionals who are actively developing their skills regarding the trade. This role is part of a registered apprenticeship program, designed to provide hands-on experience under the guidance of experienced machine operators, lead personnel, and designated mentors.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Carries out responsibilities with safety and efficiency as a priority. Prioritizes the well-being of colleagues and actively contributes to the safety program by collaborating, sharing ideas, and voicing concerns. Adheres to training guidelines, policies, and procedures while maintaining a clean and organized workspace. Proactively identifies and addresses potential hazards.
  • Operate various fabrication machines (e.g., punch press, shear, press brake).
  • Set up tooling as needed.
  • Read and interpret fabrication drawings.
  • Operates forklifts, overhead cranes, and other material handling equipment to safely and efficiently transport materials as required.
  • Understand machine operation, capacity, and routine maintenance.
  • Responsible for overall quality and quantity of assigned work.
  • Properly completes all routine paperwork related to the job responsibilities. Process will involve entering data into a computer-based operating system.
  • Work at developing knowledge of layout procedures and more complicated set-ups and tolerance adjustments.
  • Capable of performing all operational processes, including material handling with forklifts and overhead cranes, provided the individual is 18 years of age or older.
  • Strives to maximize the quantity of assigned work completed.
  • Capable of working independently or as a team with minimum supervision.

Education:

  • Current High School Student who is actively involved in a Work-based Learning Program.

Experience

Required
  • Dependable, self-motivated, and eager to grow within a hands-on work environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to follow instructions accurately.
  • Familiarity with hand tools and a willingness to learn and apply technical processes.
  • Fundamental computer literacy and clear written communication skills.
  • Basic math skills, including the ability to work with fractions and decimals.
