Position Description: The Maintenance Technician is responsible for is responsible for operating, testing, maintaining and calibrating electro-mechanical equipment. The person in this position should be computer savvy and enjoy working in an hands-on environment. They should have in-depth experience using testing equipment as well as reading blueprints and schematics. The Maintenance Technician is responsible for the following duties:
  • Diagnose and correct electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic malfunctions
  • Support all aspects of plant operations involving electrical & mechanical maintenance by responding to plant service calls under the direction of the plant leadership
  • Assignments include maintaining & repairing existing production equipment, i.e., motors, variable speed drives, etc., as well as equipment modification & new equipment installation work
  • Ensure that auxiliary equipment like forklifts is properly maintained and operated to assist with material handling.
  • Assignments include maintaining production equipment & plant operations consisting of all process & auxiliary equipment
  • Develop, implement, execute, and log preventive maintenance procedures to minimize unplanned equipment downtime
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, repairs, and equipment performance
  • Use computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) to track work orders and inventory
  • Obtain training & certification on plant safety & housekeeping rules, and any mandated corporate or government regulations regarding environmental, safety & health issues
  • Demonstrate safe work methods and practices daily, while working in the professional manner expected of a skilled tradesman
  • Follow good housekeeping practices by keeping maintenance and tool storage areas neat and clean as well as timely cleanup of work areas after each job is completed
  • Understand and maintain plant blueprints, maintenance manuals, operating instructions, electrical drawings and schematics
  • Assist with identifying and implementing improvement projects
  • Perform a variety of duties, which may change often including occasional custodial/handyman tasks
  • Model safe work methods and practices daily, including LOTO while working in a professional manner
  • Support the logistical side of the facility by managing the supply and removal of raw materials based on production schedules
  • Assist with the loading and unloading of materials or products from trucks to maintain smooth material flow
  • Able to be flexible and respond to the changing needs of the organization, including working overtime as required, including evenings, weekends, and holidays
  • May be required to travel to other locations
  • Other duties as assigned

The Maintenance Technician required knowledge, skills and abilities are:

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent required, associates degree in electrical / mechanical technology a plus
  • Ability to work from basic electrical circuits, wiring and line diagrams, pneumatic flow diagrams and hydraulic schematics for new equipment installations, equipment modifications, etc.
  • Knowledge & experience with all types of tools, test equipment and instruments used in an industrial plant application (digital multi-meters, hand tools, welder, drill, etc.)
  • Possess strong troubleshooting skills and demonstrate the ability to diagnose & correct electrical & mechanical malfunctions while driving to the root cause
  • Experience with piping and conduit repairs and installations
  • Able to work independently to job completion with a sense of urgency to support operations in maintaining production schedules
  • Basic understanding of OSHA, NEC (National Electric Code), and NFPA 70E (Standard for Electrical Safety in the Workplace)
  • Work with and supervise outside contractors as needed
  • Quickly identify and resolve issues that could halt production or reduce efficiency
  • Fabrication as needed for repairs or new projects (welding, drilling, cutting, grinding, etc.)
  • Must be able to use a computer and common software (Excel, Word)
  • Able to operate a forklift/valid forklift certification

The Material Handler Maintenance Technician required physical requirements are:

  • Ability to stand, walk, climb, stoop, kneel, crouch, reach with hands and arms and use hands to manipulate objects
  • The use of common hand tools and occasionally sharp objects are involved
  • The employee must be able to move and/or lift objects up to 50 pounds often
