Maintenance Technician

Summary:

Install, maintains and repairs machinery, equipment, and physical plant systems. Note: This position regularly involves the installation and repair of large manufacturing machinery and related electrical systems. Failure to correctly perform mechanical and electrical operations and follow all safety protocols could result in serious injury to oneself or others.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Visually inspects and tests machinery and equipment.
• Dismantles defective machines and equipment and installs new or repaired parts.
• Cleans and lubricates shafts, bearings, gears, and other machine components.
• Installs and repairs electrical apparatus, such as transformers and wiring, electrical and electronic components of machinery and equipment.
• Repairs and maintains plumbing and piping systems including air, hydraulic, steam and PVC.
• Repairs and maintains various pumps and filters.
• Repairs and maintains physical plant systems.
• Sets up and operates machine tools such as a lathe, grinder, drill and milling machine to repair or fabricate machine parts, jigs and fixtures and tools.
• Operates cutting torch or welding equipment to cut or join metal parts.
• May work with PLC/CPU/drive electronics.

Education / Experience / Training:

• High school diploma, trade or technical school certification or equivalent.
• 3 to 6 months related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Strong mechanical and electrical skills. Ability to perform electrical, mechanical and hydraulic repairs on heavy and moderate equipment.
• Ability to work with mathematical concepts. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations.
• Ability to read and interpret documents such as blueprints, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.
• Ability to troubleshoot mechanical and fluid equipment.
• Ability to safely and technically work in close proximity to and with others to perform repairs and installations in a safe manner.
• Valid drivers license.
• Experience with Swiss screw and/or rotary transfer machines highly desirable.
• Experience with PLC/CPU/drive electronics preferred.

Physical Requirements:

• Regularly required to walk, stand, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, talk and hear.
• Frequently required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and reach with hands and arms.
• Occasionally required to climb or balance, and taste or smell.
• Frequently lifting and/or moving up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 pounds.
• Vision abilities including close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment:

Noise conditions: Up to 90 decibels. Heat: Between 70 and 95. Cold: Between 50 and 70.

Atmospheric Exposures: (dust, fumes, vapors, mists, etc.): Constant petroleum oil mist.
