Holy Family Home is seeking a skilled Handyperson to work as a member of the Maintenance Services Team to maintain and improve one of the largest long term care facilities in Manitoba. Applicants must be fully prepared to interact daily with residents, families and facility staff members. Moderate skill levels in all facets of building and equipment repairs required. Previous experience within a heath care facility would be considered an asset.
The position will promote the Mission of the Sisters Servants of Mary Immaculate by supporting the care values regarding the provision of quality care, loving environment, Christian ideals and principles, respect for life and dignity of person, and preservation of our traditional ethnic customs.
QUALIFICATIONS
1. Applicants with trade experience, previous maintenance experience in a health care setting, or a trade certificate will be considered an asset.
2. Minimum of five (5) years of experience in maintenance or a related trade area such as carpentry, painting, drywall repair, and flooring.
3. Physically able to work in confined spaces, work on ladders, and perform occasional lifting and moving of materials.
4. Demonstrated ability to work independently, manage time effectively, prioritize work orders, and complete tasks in a timely manner.
5. Ability to work safely with power and hand tools.
6. Must be able to take direction and instruction from the Supervisor and maintenance team members.
7. Basic computer skills required, including the ability to use a tablet to access work orders and document repairs.
8. Must be able to speak, read, write, and follow directions in English.
9. Ability to work safely, identify when additional risk assessment is required, and adhere to safety and health regulations and safe work practices.
10. Ability to work directly with residents and health care staff while prioritizing residents’ needs with patience and professionalism.
11. Must demonstrate good mental and physical health and maintain a satisfactory attendance record.
12. Must be able to work an alternating weekend schedule.
RESPONSIBLE TO
Plant Superintendent or his designate
RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Perform drywall repairs, patching, painting, flooring repairs, baseboard repairs, and basic carpentry and millwork repairs.
2. Complete furniture repairs and refinishing.
3. Move, lift, and haul furniture, equipment, and materials as required.
4. Test, troubleshoot, and repair health care equipment including, but not limited to, beds, lifts, tubs, and related equipment.
5. Perform minor plumbing repairs including faucets, sinks, toilets, and drains.
6. Provide general electronics troubleshooting and support, including televisions, cable boxes, and appliances.
7. Work safely around electrical and mechanical equipment. Duties may include bulb replacements and preliminary testing and diagnosis of non-functioning equipment.
8. Assist with grounds keeping duties including garbage pick-up, snow removal, lawn care, tree and bush trimming, and the set-up and take-down of outdoor furniture.
9. Perform preventative maintenance and cleaning of sump and sewage pits.
10. Complete HVAC filter changes and preventative maintenance including greasing motors and bearings, and cleaning condenser coils.
11. Inspect and complete daily, weekly, and monthly checklists related to life safety systems, water temperatures, and building equipment.
12. Escort and assist contractors working within the complex.
13. Perform additional duties and tasks as assigned.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $20.97-$26.81 per hour
