Position Overview
The maintenance worker will perform routine and preventative maintenance and repair procedures at the Wequedong Lodge facility primarily in conjunction with the maintenance supervisor. The maintenance worker will also work with the supervisors in the performance of maintenance duties.
Qualifications
The maintenance worker must possess:
· High school diploma or equivalent
· Minimum of two (2) years in building maintenance.
· WHIMIS
· Must be agreeable to flexible work schedule
· Basic knowledge of HVAC, plumbing and electrical systems.
· Ability to handle the physical demands including but not limited to bending, pushing, pulling, kneeling, working on ladders, standing for long periods of time and lifting 50lbs. of the job including
· Experience and knowledge of using hand and electrical tools and exterior maintenance equipment.
· Ability to organize and prioritize work on a weekly/daily basis.
· Knowledge of building and equipment maintenance schedules.
· Adequate verbal and written English language skills.
· Possess a valid Ontario Driver’s License and vehicle.
· Basic knowledge of the Ontario Fire Code and of Health and Safety regulations.
· Fluency either in Ojibway, Oji-Cree or Cree would be an asset.
· An understanding and appreciation of Indigenous culture.
Duties and Responsibilities
1. Perform internal and external routine inspection on a daily basis and maintenance of the building.
2. Check control panels and electrical wiring in AC units and in existing systems such as the Fire Alarm system in order to identify functionality issues.
3. Replace light bulbs, window blinds, television and computer cables, and other appliances and equipment.
4. Maintain exterior grounds.
5. Be capable of inspecting and providing maintenance on equipment and premises and report findings to the Maintenance Supervisor and/or management.
6. Move furniture and equipment upon instruction.
7. Perform minor plumbing repairs such as fixing leaks, unclogging drains, and replacing fixtures.
8. Assist with routine boiler checks, hot water tank inspection, and maintaining heating systems as directed by the Maintenance Supervisor.
9. Monitor and document maintenance activities using checklists, logs, and reporting forms to ensure compliance with internal procedures.
10. Inspect and repair interior finishes, including patching drywall, painting, and repairing ceiling tiles.
11. Maintain walkways, driveways, and entrances, including snow removal, salting, sweeping, and debris cleanup to ensure safety.
12. Perform regular safety checks on fire extinguishers, emergency lighting, exit signs, and other life safety systems.
13. Assist contractors and service providers by providing building access and supporting oversight of their work when required.
14. Conduct routine inspections of guest rooms and common areas to identify and resolve safety and maintenance issues.
15. Support preventative pest control by monitoring problem areas and notifying management of concerns.
16. Perform minor carpentry work such as repairing doors, installing shelves, and securing handrails.
17. Assist with inventory management of maintenance supplies and equipment and notify the Maintenance Supervisor when stock needs replenishing.
18. Ensure proper waste handling and recycling procedures are maintained throughout the facility.
19. Participate in emergency response procedures, including assisting during power outages, floods, or facility evacuations.
20. Ensure all tools, equipment, and mechanical spaces are kept clean, organized, and in safe working conditions.
21. Respond promptly to maintenance work orders and urgent repair requests to minimize disruptions.
22. Conduct routine preventative maintenance on HVAC systems, including filter changes, coil cleaning, and monitoring system performance.
