About the role:
The Hospital strives to deliver care that is centred on patients and families. Patient and Family Centred Care (PFCC)

is the provision of care that is respectful of, and responsive to individual patient/family preferences, needs, and values

and ensures that those values guide all decisions. Creating a caring environment for patients and families ensures

continuity of care and fosters a learning environment. Applicants are required to have a demonstrated knowledge,

understanding and commitment to this care philosophy.

Manages and leads all staff within the Adult Mental Health Inpatient Unit and the outpatient Brief Intervention and Treatment

Team in the daily operational provision of patient care and

services to support patient recovery in a safe environment for patients and staff.

Education

Baccalaureate degree (Masters preparation preferred)

Unencumbered Registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario preferred

Experience

Minimum 5 years progressive clinical leadership experience

Minimum 8 years practical and related experience in an acute mental health setting.

Certification in Psychiatric/Mental Health Nursing is preferred

Current NVCI certification is required

Skills (in addition to behavioural competencies identified above)

Analytical thinking skills in order to monitor, assess and implement programs and address operational needs and to supervise and evaluate staff performance; promote positive staff relations and ensure fiscal sustainability.

Communication skills both oral and written.

Interpersonal skills and emotional intelligence to interact effectively with staff, patients, family supports, community partners and Patient Advocate.

Leadership and teamwork skills to support, coach, direct, mentor and teach activities to clinical staff.

Knowledge

In depth knowledge of Psychiatric clinical practice, team processes, security procedures and their importance, professional standards, research activities and current trends and approaches to treatment and rehabilitation of mental illness in order to direct staff and to assess, implement and evaluate effective delivery of patient care services and operational needs within an interprofessional milieu in an acute care setting.

Management theory and project management as it applies to a program management model in order to work under the direction of and in collaboration with the Director Occupational Health and Safety Act in order to meet the criteria for competent supervision as per the Act

In depth knowledge of Mental Health Act, Regulated Health Professions Act, Personal Health Information Protection Act, Health Care Consent Act, Collective Agreements (various), Ministry and Hospital policies and procedures in order to interpret and apply the relevant sections when giving direction to staff.

Knowledge of practice standards and guiding principles to foster professional practice and accountability

Change theory in order to act as a change agent to support change initiatives in clinical practice and those

mandated within the program.

Salary Range: $61.660 to 77.080
