The Opportunity

The Cloud & Platform Architecture Manager is responsible for defining, designing, and governing the implementation of enterprise-wide infrastructure, cloud, and platform strategies, including EirGrid’s enterprise technology platforms, on-premises, cloud infrastructure, data architecture, and application services such as Identity, Monitoring and CI/CD pipelines. This role leads the architectural vision for scalable, secure, and cost-effective technology infrastructure that supports business objectives and enables digital transformation initiatives. A core aspect of the role is to manage and mentor a team of architects, ensuring cohesive and innovative platform strategies are developed that align with EirGrid’s business objectives.



Key Responsibilities

• Build and lead a team of architects, providing mentorship, technical guidance, and fostering a collaborative and high-performing team culture.
• Develop and manage the architecture roadmap across on-premises, cloud platforms, hybrid and future multi-cloud models.
• Define architectural standards, principles, and best practices for infrastructure, cloud platforms, and underlying technologies.
• Architect, develop and promote new integrated solutions across legacy and cloud infrastructures.
• Oversee EirGrid’s end-to-end data architecture choices, including storage, pipelines, and analytics.
• Design and manage platforms for application services, including DevOps automation, and container orchestration.
• Ensure architectural best practices for interoperability, performance, resilience, and high availability.
• Drive platform modernisation initiatives and manage complex architecture efforts across multiple disciplines.
• Build, coach, and empower a team with diverse technical backgrounds, nurturing their development and aligning contributions to common objectives.
• Establish clear architectural standards, governance processes, and shared goals across the architecture team.
Partner across technical teams, translate requirements into actionable technical solutions, and clearly communicate platform vision and progress to all stakeholders.

About You

• Degree or higher in a relevant discipline supported by extensive, 10 plus years, experience with on-premises infrastructure and cloud platforms, including hybrid models.
• Expertise in data architecture: relational, NoSQL, data lakes, and data integration.
• Advanced knowledge of application services: container technologies, infrastructure-as-code, DevOps tools.
• Demonstrated leadership in managing and scaling architecture team-mentoring, performance management, and team building.
• Dynamic communication and stakeholder management skills at all organisational levels.
• Strong grasp of IT security, compliance, and governance frameworks.
• Familiarity with Agile, DevOps, and ITIL methodologies.
• The ability to identify and unblock solution dependencies and obstacles and make judgement calls between pragmatism and an ideal target state.
• Structured thinker, ability to break down new complex problems into workable solutions
• Ability to lead and influence others to move towards a common vision or goal and able to work collaboratively with and through others.
• Knowledge of the constraints and challenges of supporting a secure high-availability, mission-critical IT environment
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to explain and “sell” the concepts and objectives to the business, as well as technical leadership.
• Confident, change-oriented, resilient with an ability to influence and challenge effectively.
