YWCA NWT is hiring a Manager of Communications & Fund Development for a full-time position, working in the Yellowknife administration office. Reporting to the Executive Director, this position provides strategic leadership in advancing the YWCA NWT’s profile, sustainability, community relationships, and fundraising capacity. The position is responsible for developing and implementing communications strategies, managing public relations and media engagement, securing new funding opportunities, strengthening community engagement, donor and stakeholder relationships, supporting Board engagement, and coordinating events and campaigns.
The Manager plays a key role in increasing public awareness and promoting the impact of the organization’s program and services across the NWT and nationally if needed. This includes leading communications and fund development efforts that support Gender Based Violence prevention programs & services, housing initiatives for families experiencing or at risk of homelessness, licensed childcare, family resource programs, youth empowerment initiatives and advocacy to advance gender equity, housing security and violence prevention.
Responsibilities
Strategic Communications and Public Relations
· Lead the organization’s communications strategy.
· Manage all external communications and public messaging.
· Develop media releases, newsletters, annual report for AGM, presentations, and campaign materials.
· Manage the website, social media platforms, and digital communications.
· Support the Executive Director with speeches and presentations as needed.
Fund Development and Grant Management
· Develop and implement a comprehensive fundraising and revenue diversification strategy.
· Research and pursue grant and funding opportunities.
· Write and coordinate grant applications and proposals.
· Develop donor campaigns and sponsorship opportunities.
· Maintain relationships with funders, donors, and community partners.
· Support reporting requirements related to grants and donations.
Stakeholder, Donor and Board Relations
· Build and maintain relationships with community partners, Indigenous governments, governments, businesses, foundations, and supporters.
· Support Board members in fundraising roles.
· Coordinate stakeholder engagement activities and recognition initiatives.
· Prepare materials that demonstrate organizational impact and outcomes.
Events and Community Engagement
· Lead planning and execution of the AGM, fundraising events, awareness campaigns, and community engagement activities.
· Coordinate logistics, promotions, sponsorships, and stakeholder participation.
· Identify opportunities to increase the organization’s visibility across the NWT.
Digital and Administrative Communications
· Maintain the organization’s website and social media presence.

· Monitor general organizational communication channels and respond to public inquiries.
· Post employment opportunities on the website, social media and other media outlets as needed.
· Maintain communication calendars, donor databases, and fundraising records.
Monitoring, Evaluation and Reporting
· Track communication, fundraising, and engagement outcomes.
· Prepare regular reports for the Executive Director.
· Analyze trends and recommend strategies to increase organizational reach and financial sustainability.
Other
· Complies with YWCA NWT policies and procedures.
· Performs other tasks as assigned by the Executive Director in support of YWCA NWT’s mission and reconciliation goals.
Qualifications
- Degree or diploma in communications, public relations, non-profit management, marketing, business, social sciences, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 5+ years of experience in communications, fundraising, grant writing, community engagement, or non-profit development.
- Proven success in securing grants and building funding relationships.
- Strong writing, editing, and storytelling skills.
- Experience managing websites, social media, and digital communications.
- Experience planning events and engaging diverse stakeholders.
- Knowledge of the non-profit sector and social issues, particularly gender-based violence, homelessness, poverty, childcare and youth programming.
- Understanding of Indigenous cultures, histories, colonial impacts, and trauma-informed approaches, particularly within northern and remote communities.
- Strong relationship-building, organizational, and project management skills.
Pay: $90,000.00-$125,000.00 per year
