The Opportunity:
This position is a key part of the YMCA of Southwestern New Brunswick’s strategic plan, which emphasizes the expansion of recreational and volunteer opportunities in rural communities. The role will focus on developing and delivering community and recreational programming in the Eastern Charlotte area, aimed at addressing identified needs and enhancing overall community health and well-being. In addition, the position will provide oversight for the afterschool programs in St. George and Fundy Shores.
We are seeking a passionate and community-minded individual with a strong background in program development and community engagement. Reporting directly to the General Manager of Child Care and After School Programs, the successful candidate will play a key role in shaping the YMCA’s future programming to serve individuals of all ages and stages of life.
This role involves working in close partnership with the Municipality to support the development of a new Community Centre and to collaborate on initiatives that respond to the evolving needs of the Eastern Charlotte community. The candidate will also be responsible for overseeing the delivery of afterschool programs and day camps in St. George and Fundy Shores.
In addition, this position will focus on building strong community connections by promoting volunteerism, organizing local events, and working with the YMCA team to engage and inspire community participation.
Responsibilities:
- The manager will be responsible to connect with stakeholders in Eastern Charlotte County to understand needs, space available for programming, the role the Y can play in supporting new program developments or close existing gaps in services.
- The Manager will be responsible for program development and finalizing outcomes anticipated from the programs.
- Work collaboratively with the various departments of the Y to understand current programs and how to compliment or extend them to Eastern Charlotte County.
- Work closely with local school boards and regional and municipal governments to meet the child care needs of the community.
- Work with the Child Care and After School supervisory team to increase the scope of child care operations by identifying opportunities for growth and expansion.
- Responsible for ensuring proper requirements are met for all provincially licensed Centre’s and programs and standards are met and/or exceeded.
- Ensure alignment with YMCA Standards and program frameworks such as YMCA Playing to Learn, YMCA - A Place to Connect.
- Closely monitor and evaluate program quality indicators and develop and implement strategies for improvement through monthly site assessments.
- Assist with hiring process for staff required to deliver the programs, as well as creating volunteer opportunities.
- Ensure new and existing safety protocols are implemented including YMCA Child Safety and Protection protocols.
- Budget development and management, measuring outcomes and key metrics for each program.
- Promote program opportunities within the community.
- Create fundraising opportunities to support events and programs.
- Coach and mentor staff/volunteers for future employment opportunities in the community.
- Support culture change by cultivating principles of diversity, collaboration and cross-organizational communication.
Skills and Qualifications:
- Relevant Post-secondary education.
- Experience working in recreation and community development
- Previous experience working in a supervisory role.
- Experience developing, creating and supporting programs.
- Demonstrated ability to build consensus, strong interpersonal skills.
- Strong work ethic and excellent organizational skills.
- Effective relationship building and business partnering skills.
- Current First Aid and CPR (or willing to obtain).
- Employment is contingent on a cleared Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Search along with a Social Development Check with no convictions.
