Purpose
Contributes to the success of the Canadian Banking Compliance (CBC) Monitoring Program, ensuring specific individual goals, plans, and initiatives are executed and delivered in support of business strategies and objectives.
Performs monitoring and oversight activities across multiple Canadian Banking (CB), Global Operations (GO), and Global Wealth Management (GWM) business units (“Stakeholders”) to identify, monitor, and report on areas of Compliance Risk.
Accountabilities
Drives a customer focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge.
Protect the Bank and enable client primacy objectives through consistent performance of monitoring and oversight activities.
Leverage broader Bank relationships, systems, and knowledge to enhance risk identification and improve the CBC Monitoring program.
Actively contributes to the development of strategies and initiatives to steadily improve and enhance the CBC Monitoring Program.
Drives processes to assure the CBC Monitoring Program meets its deliverables related to Sales Practices & Conduct, Complaint Handling, and/or Branch Closures:
Completes monitoring activities to assure Stakeholder are compliant and ensure regulatory reporting obligations, including timelines, are met.
Analyzes all data accurately and effectively, including Reportable Compliance Issues (RCIs), to identify patterns, gaps, themes and/or trends in compliance controls that may indicate weaknesses and/or potential risk. Escalates to management where necessary.
Prepares and/or supports committee and business unit reporting, utilizing analysis.
Completes ad-hoc, unique and/or focused monitoring reviews; and other duties and projects as assigned.
Completes/contributes to reports for the Financial Consumer Agency of Canada (FCAC) and/or the Authorité des marchés financier (AMF) and prepares/facilitates responses to their enquiries, information requests and examinations.
Contributes to sustainment of the CBC Monitoring Program through creation and maintenance of relevant documentation such as its Handbook, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), working papers, reports, and any other documents as required.
Develops and maintains strong relationships with Stakeholders for the purposes of creating an integrated risk framework and enhancing business-unit effectiveness. Conducts meetings to discuss new/updated regulatory obligations, Bank policies and procedures, and monitoring results while providing appropriate counsel.
Understand how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.
Actively pursues effective and efficient operations of their respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank’s Values, its Code of Conduct, and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions, and conduct risk.

Education/Experience
3 years of experience in financial services
Post-secondary education, preferable in Business Administration, Accounting, or Finance
Excellent planning and analytical skills, ability to focus on critical issues
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Strong knowledge of Scotiabank policies and procedures, system applications, operations, support functions, and complaint resolution standards
Thorough knowledge of Canadian Banking regulations
Thorough knowledge of Canadian Banking delivery channels, products, and services
Highly motivated; demonstrated ability to multi-task and deliver in a fast-paced, challenging, and dynamic business environment
Ability to develop strong working relationships with partners/stakeholders, and influence change with numerous, cross-functional teams
