Function:

Reporting to the Director of Newsgathering Operations, the Manager, Field Operations, manages video and field production requirements which include: Videographers/Video Producers for Network News, Radio-Canada Ontario (Toronto), Current Affairs and other domestic assignments.

Responsibilities:
  • Supervises the activity of video production crews in Toronto.
  • Helps develop production budgets for a variety of News programs, series, documentaries, live coverage, etc.
  • Liaises with CBC bureaus (foreign and domestic) to arrange for production in or based from these centres.
  • Liaises with other CBC departments to negotiate joint ventures and shared resource initiatives.
  • Works closely with the Manager of Fleet & Support as well as the Supervisor of Field Transmission.
  • Negotiates with independent production houses and equipment suppliers to acquire necessary production tools and services.
  • Collaborates with stakeholders and subject matter experts within and outside the organization to evaluate new equipment and production technology.
  • Responsible for defining and updating standards and practices and ensuring those standards are met and practices followed.
  • Assesses training needs, initiates the development of training programs for staff to meet production and department needs.
  • Participates in creating News Operations practices and procedures initiates and monitors implementation as required.
We are looking for a candidate with the following:
  • BILINGUALISM IN FRENCH IS AN ASSET
  • Broad understanding of all facets of video and field production.
  • Strong understanding of camera operation and photographic principles, lighting, editing, audio recording, etc.,
  • Demonstrate an understanding of journalistic principles and CBC Journalistic Standards and Practices.
  • Ability to work with and contribute to the creative process of content production with a wide variety of program and field producers.
  • Demonstrate the ability to manage continually shifting priorities in a deadline-driven environment.
  • Ability to foster productive and respectful relationships with collaborators in addressing a wide variety of operational challenges and competing priorities.
  • Must be available after hours and on weekends to manage late breaking developments in the field.
