What you can expect from this position:

Reporting to the Associate Director, Energy & Utilities, this role will lead an in-house team and outsourced medium voltage maintenance contractor(s) to maintain optimal performance and reliability of Toronto Pearson’s medium voltage power distribution infrastructure and utility meters. In addition, the successful candidate will identify, evaluate, propose, coordinate and report initiatives, programs and projects for energy conservation, clean energy supply and GHG emission reduction.

As a Manager, Power Systems & Energy Conservation, you will:

  • Support the LIFT Program and achievement of our net-zero GHG goals and power reliability requirements
  • Lead the safe and efficient execution of the medium voltage utility distribution system, utility meters and sub-metering systems preventive maintenance program
  • Liaise with engineering staff and project teams to ensure energy & utility power system requirements of the various current and future program and projects are coordinated to meet the operational requirements and goals
  • Identify, assess, prioritize and recommend to senior management energy-saving and GHG reduction projects
  • Review existing energy study reports and perform a high-level Assessments to identify energy saving opportunities and to identify which systems will require more detailed evaluations
  • Develop and deliver education/training to the GTAA’s staff to enable optimal energy use and GHG savings
  • Implement an employee education and awareness program to promote energy supply, conservation and demand management and communicate the programs
  • Work to create and develop a sustainable energy management environment and provide an avenue for employees to recognize and report issues and ideas regarding energy conservation and efficiency
  • Lead people by providing coaching, guidance and development by providing relevant feedback for personal and career growth
  • Develop and maintain the Energy Master Plan

The salary for this management non-unionized position is competitive based on the successful candidate’s qualifications

This is the role for you, if you have:

  • University and/or post-secondary education in electrical engineering or applied science and/or equivalent experience
  • Certified energy manager (CEM), Certified Measurement and Verification Professional (CMVP) or a licensed professional engineer in the province of Ontario or professionally designated as a certified engineering technician or technologist or 5 years experience in power distribution systems
  • 5+ years experience in power system distribution
  • 3+ years energy conservation, energy analysis and/or energy conservation projects experience
  • Previous experience in utility metering and sub metering would be an asset
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in People Management (direct report or cross-functional)
  • Demonstrated experience working in a customer centric environment
  • Ability to obtain and retain Transportation Security Clearance at the designated level for the position

Knowledge and skills you bring, that set-you up for success:

  • Strong background in large scale facilities and utilities energy use and energy management
  • Experience with design and development of impactful buildings retrofits and new construction
  • Experience with small scale renewable energy projects (solar, geothermal).
  • Experience in working with utility metering or sub metering
  • Solid understanding of carbon accounting and reporting standards
  • Ability to effectively maintain and lead operating and/or capital budgets
  • Ability to think strategically and with a customer centric focus
  • Ability to work with a unionized staff and ensuring compliance to safety and training
  • Excellent decision-making and problem-solving skills including sound reasoning and judgment
  • Ability to work in stressful situations while meeting multiple demands
  • Excellent Organizational Skills (planning, goal setting, prioritizing, scheduling)
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Strong technical proficiency and/or experience related to the types of systems to be maintained
  • Ability to motivate staff and achieve desired results
  • Thorough knowledge and proficiency with computers, MS Office Suite products (Word, Excel
  • Ability to collaborate with internal and/or external partners
  • Strong interpersonal, analytical and problem-solving skills
