This role will support the Associate Director, Risk Strategy in developing, maintaining, and implementing Optus’ risk management strategy, policies, and standards aligned with the company's broader vision. It plays a key part in enhancing risk capability across the organisation by facilitating training and development, staying abreast of industry developments, and ensuring Optus adopts best-practice approaches. The position involves high-level engagement with senior leadership and the Executive Committee to embed risk-aware culture and practices across the business.

In addition, the role works closely with the Associate Director, Reporting & Governance to manage risk governance activities across all Optus business units. This includes coordinating governance forums, supporting end-to-end reporting processes for the Board and Singtel-level risk committees, and ensuring all risk categories are effectively monitored and reported. The role also contributes to strengthening risk architecture and technology by identifying business needs and designing solutions that align with the risk management framework, thereby driving continuous improvement in risk processes.

Please note this is a Parental Leave Cover of up to 12 months.

What you'll be doing:
Develop, implement, and maintain Optus’ risk management strategy, policies, and standards, while monitoring their quality, delivery, and compliance across the organisation.

Design and facilitate risk training and development programs to strengthen risk capability within the risk team and across the business.

Coordinate risk governance forums, maintain governance calendars, support board-level risk reporting, and monitor the effectiveness of risk governance processes and systems.

Stay informed on industry and external risk developments through stakeholder engagement, research, and networking to ensure Optus’ approach remains current and best-in-class.

Collaborate with the broader risk team to identify business needs and design fit-for-purpose technological solutions that enhance risk management practices and frameworks

What makes you perfect for the role

A relevant undergraduate degree in Commerce, Economics, Finance, IT, or similar disciplines.

5–8 years’ experience in first- or second-line risk roles or audit, ideally within financial or professional services, with strong knowledge of enterprise risk management principles and strategies.

Proficient in implementing risk and control standards (e.g., ISO31000, COBIT, ISO27001) and experienced in operational risk, compliance frameworks, risk assessments, and governance reporting in large corporate environments.

Strong analytical capabilities, sound judgment, and a high level of attention to detail to ensure accuracy and quality in reporting and decision-making.

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across teams and present confidently to stakeholders.

Demonstrated ability to work autonomously in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, with strong problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to delivering outcomes.
