JOB SUMMARY:
Responsible for maintaining all rigging and special effects (SPFX) equipment, including the oversight of their instillation, inspections and certification standards. Works with both third-party and internal engineers for proper design and approvals of all entertainment temporary structures, and acts as the Competent Person for these structures. Responsible Person for the Pyrotechnics/Fireworks program, including the ordering, permitting, inventory, and transportation of Special Effects/pyrotechnic devices on Universal Orlando Property. Responsible for all relationships and ensuring compliance with Federal, State, County, and City of Orlando regulatory agencies.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Maintain all high-risk equipment including ensuring their inspection and certification as per EHS, OSHA, UDX CORE and AHJ standards. Obtain proper engineering calculations, documentation, and approvals for all entertainment temporary structures through external third-party engineers and internal engineering department. Oversee the safe installation of all high-risk entertainment offerings. Act as the Competent Person as it applies to scaffold installation, daily inspections, and safety operation of the temporary scaffolding set ups.
- Manage the ordering, receipt, inventory, and transportation of Special Effects/pyrotechnic devices on Universal Orlando Property. Obtain the necessary and required permits for pyrotechnic and Special Effect productions on Universal Orlando Property. Overall responsibility for relationships with Federal, State, County, and City of Orlando regulatory agencies; including but not limited to Compliance, licensing, transportation of hazardous materials, storage of explosives, environmental controls, and emergency response procedures.
- Write scopes and contracts for high-risk as it applies to entertainment offerings. Responsible for basic CAD drawings & ground plans to support plan for rigging/staging as it applies to entertainment offerings.
- Effectively communicate necessary information which pertains to the high-risk operation to all affected parties inside and outside of the Entertainment Department.
- Responsible for the appropriate technical staffing of all high-risk positions within the assigned areas including interviewing and selecting candidates as well as monitoring all scheduling to ensure proper technical operation.
- Ensures that all Technical Entertainment employees within their assigned discipline attend necessary mandatory training classes as well as plays an instrumental role in encouraging employees to take advantage of educational opportunities which will enhance and improve their job performance.
- Oversee venue financial areas including labor and non-labor budgets, venue parameters, and show schedules/cycles/grids.
- Understands and actively participates in Environmental, Health & Safety responsibilities by following established UO policy, procedures, training and team member involvement activities.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION:
- Associate’s degree (AA) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school required.
- Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university in related field preferred.
EXPERIENCE:
- 3-5 years experience within the professional entertainment or theme park industry required.
- 5-7 years in management or supervisory position preferred. Technical management and experience in live performance, entertainment, touring productions, business and theater.
- Also, temporary and permanent audio, lighting, A/V and special effect installations. Scenic, props, rigging and SPFX experience preferred.
- Or equivalent combination of education and experience.
CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
- Valid FL Driver’s License.
