Position Summary
The Manufacturing Cost Coordinator supports the cost accounting function by closing completed manufacturing orders, verifying production transactions, and resolving job-cost discrepancies. This is a detail-oriented, transactional role within Finance that ensures job costs are recorded accurately and on time, freeing senior cost staff to focus on analysis. The role works closely with Production, Warehouse, and the cost accounting team and reports to the Senior Cost Accountant.
Key Responsibilities
- Close completed manufacturing orders (jobs) in the ERP system accurately and on schedule.
- Verify that labor, material, and quantity transactions on each job are complete and correct before closing.
- Identify and correct routine transaction errors — material consumption, scrap, quantity, and inventory postings.
- Research job-cost discrepancies and coordinate with Production and Warehouse to obtain and post corrections.
- Compile routine job-close and variance reports for review by the Senior Cost Accountant.
- Flag unusual or recurring variances to the Senior Cost Accountant for analysis (investigation and explanation remain with senior staff).
- Help keep production and inventory transaction data clean and timely to support an accurate month-end close.
- Maintain documentation and checklists for the job-close process; recommend improvements that reduce errors and cycle time.
- Communicate with Production, Warehouse, and Finance to gather information and resolve routine issues.
- Support the cost accounting team with related administrative and clerical tasks as assigned.
Education
- High school diploma required.
- Associate degree or equivalent experience preferred.
Experience
- 1–3 years of data entry, clerical, manufacturing, or cost/accounting support experience.
- Experience with ERP systems is a plus (Epicor especially).
Skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook.
- Strong attention to detail and data accuracy.
- Ability to investigate and resolve transactional discrepancies.
- Basic understanding of manufacturing processes and inventory control.
- Good organizational and time-management skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Bilingual English / Spanish a plus.
Success Measures
- Timely and accurate closure of manufacturing orders.
- Reduction in recurring job-cost discrepancies and transaction errors.
- Clean, timely production and inventory data supporting the close.
- Process improvement recommendations identified and implemented.
