Job Description
As a Manufacturing Design Specialist, you will play a key role in designing, implementing, and improving manufacturing processes within an Engineered‑to‑Order production environment. This role partners closely with operations, automation, and cross‑functional teams to support daily production, introduce new processes and technologies, and drive improvements in safety, quality, productivity, and delivery. You will lead and support manufacturing initiatives across the full lifecycle—from process design and capital projects to troubleshooting production issues and standardizing best practices—while helping ensure products are built efficiently, safely, and at the highest quality.
You will work on-site in Cambridge, ON and will report to the Manager, Manufacturing Engineering.
Your Responsibilities:
- Manufacturing engineering support for manufacturing operations.
- Help commission new automated processes and warehouse technologies.
- Build competencies and subject matter expertise in automated assembly processes and warehouse technologies.
- Lead or support cross functional teams to create and implement standard assembly processes and technologies
- The desire to build relationships with other business groups to create synergy in optimizing process automation and ensuring the application of appropriate automation technology and information security within the manufacturing plant.
- Experience working with 3rd party vendors, integrators and OEMs regarding equipment procurement
- Assist production personnel in downtime resolution, quality of products produced, and safety practices.
- Identify and implement manufacturing cost reductions and productivity improvements.
- Investigate, solve, and report on manufacturing problems using continuous Lean practices and methodologies.
- Identify assembly equipment, tooling, and fixture requirements. Participate in the procurement, installation, and validation activities.
- Initiate and provide justification for capital requests. Define, plan, and lead the implementation of approved capital requests.
- Assist with the revision and creation of documented work instructions and provide training to production personnel.
- Layout of new or existing production lines including material flow patterns,
- Support material review board (MRB) to disposition defective parts or assemblies.
- Effectively work on multiple projects in a team environment.
- Conduct tasks in accordance with applicable health, safety, quality, and environmental regulations (ISO 9000, ISO 14000, etc.) as well as Rockwell Automation policies and procedures.
The Essentials - You Will Have:
- Bachelor's Degree in Relevant Field.
- Legal authorization to work in Canada is required. We will not sponsor individuals for employment visas, now or in the future for this job opening.
The Preferred - You Might Also Have:
- Typically requires a minimum of 5 years of related experience.
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical, Mechatronics, Automation, Electrical Engineering, other related technical degree.
- 5+ years in a manufacturing environment, including an Engineer to Order business.
- CAD experience creating 3D models. Electrical diagrams is preferred.
- Collaborating with IT and OT/MES functions to develop processes and equipment to support Rockwell Automation's Connected Enterprise journey
- A strong tendency to include others in issue resolution discussions and outcomes
- Technical experience with multiple technologies (Allen-Bradley PLC's and HMI's, controllers, conveyance, motors, robots, vision, sensors, network switches, etc.)
- Must be able to work well in a team environment and interface with other functional groups.
- Knowledge of Medium Voltage products an asset.
- Experience with network infrastructure and interfacing manufacturing equipment.
- Familiar with Auto CAD, PTC Creo or other 3-D modeling software
- Experience with Project Management, Design For Manufacturability and Assembly (DFMA), Lean Six Sigma tools and methodologies.

This position is part of a job family. Experience will be the determining factor for position level and compensation.
For this role, the Base Salary Compensation is from $83,760 - $104,700 with an annual target bonus of 5% of base salary. Actual pay will be based on factors such as skills, knowledge, education, and experience.
