Marketing Officer (Volunteer Role)

The Collective on Anti-Racism (COAR) was nurtured on the stolen lands of Ngunnawal and Ngambri Country. We seek to curate anti-racist spaces in Canberra. We run a monthly anti-racist BIPOC-centred discussion group and hold small monthly community events for the BIPOC community. We also use our platforms to strengthen and celebrate the BIPOC communities in Canberra.

We are seeking a Marketing Officer (Volunteer Role) to join our Committee and lead the marketing of our events, and maintain and grow our social media presence.

COAR has a key ethos of sharing and centring the lived experiences of BIPOC people for the purposes of anti-racist learning. Our spaces follow our Principled Space Guidelines, which you can read here https://coarcbr.wixsite.com/coarcbr/our-principled-space-guidelines

The role of the Marketing Officer is as follows:

Event promotion:

This includes making the event page on Facebook, MeetUp, Eventbrite, running the Eventbrite ads, promoting the Anti-Racist Syllabus across our social media platforms, and developing engaging posts/stories to encourage attendance.
  • Promoting our monthly community events by making the event page on Facebook, MeetUp, Eventbrite, running the Eventbrite ads, and making promotional posts/stories on COAR’s social media platforms.
  • Promoting the larger events that we host several times throughout the year by making the event page on Facebook, MeetUp, Eventbrite, running the Eventbrite ads, and making promotional posts/stories on COAR’s social media platforms.

General Tasks:

  • Making ad hoc posts on our social media platforms as necessary, such as promoting COAR’s volunteer form.
  • Keeping the Facebook group engaged by regularly making posts to increase engagement and discussion.
  • Developing and updating marketing materials as necessary, such as the COAR brochure or posters.

COAR has a Canva Pro subscription in which the Marketing Officer can use to develop social media graphics. We also have pre-existing social media graphic templates for our monthly events. Please find our existing social media pages with @coar.cbr.

You will be supported by the Collective Manager and COAR Committee, but will be expected to work independently and take initiative. This is a volunteer role, with the possibility of remuneration, dependent on grants.
