About the role

The Mechanic is responsible for inspecting, diagnosing, servicing, maintaining, and repairing diesel trucks, barges, heavy equipment, and other company-owned machinery. This position performs preventative maintenance, troubleshoots mechanical issues, and completes necessary repairs to ensure equipment remains safe, reliable, and operational. The Mechanic also responds to equipment breakdowns, identifies potential issues before they result in downtime, and helps maintain the overall condition and performance of the company’s fleet and equipment.

• Inspect, operate, and test trucks, barges, heavy equipment, and other company-owned machinery to diagnose mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and operating system malfunctions.
• Repair and diagnose engines, electrical systems, navigational equipment, pumps, hydraulics, steering mechanisms, braking systems, and other mechanical components.
• Perform routine and preventative maintenance.
• Respond to equipment breakdowns and perform field repairs and service calls as needed to minimize downtime and support company operations and customers.
• Inspect vehicles and equipment for safety concerns, damage, excessive wear, or other conditions requiring maintenance or repair.
• Maintain accurate records of inspections, preventative maintenance, repairs, parts used, and completed work.
• Communicate equipment conditions, repair needs, parts requirements, and anticipated downtime to appropriate personnel.
• Safely operate company vehicles, forklifts, and heavy equipment as necessary to inspect, move, test, or repair equipment.
• Comply with all quality, safety, and work rules and regulations and maintain a clean and organized work area.
• Other duties as assigned.

• High school or GED equivalent degree.
• 3+ years of mechanical experience required.
• Valid driver’s license.
• CDL, Class A (preferred)
• Experience in maintaining machines and/or work in construction trades a plus.
• Good verbal communication skills.
• Must be able to read/comprehend written and oral instructions in English, including safety rules, operating procedures, manuals, etc.
• Skilled at completing tasks and prioritizing multiple projects at one time.
• Ability to read engineering drawings and blueprints (preferred)

• Work involves walking, talking, hearing, lifting, pushing, pulling and/or carrying up to 100 pounds occasionally in addition to using material handling equipment.
• May be required to stoop, bend, kneel, crouch or crawl. Vision abilities require close vision assessments. Moderately loud noise levels in the work environment.
• Ability to perform labor-intensive tasks repeatedly and stand for long periods.
• Steel toe boots are required.

Travel Requirements: Frequent local travel required.
