Mechanical Estimator

Our Estimating team is a tight-knit crew that works hard and has a good time doing it. We back each other up, laugh a lot, enjoy collaborating — and we're looking for a Mechanical Estimator to grow this team.

You'll jump right into helping put together solid, accurate cost estimates for mechanical construction projects. You'll get to put your Mechanical background to good use, master Bluebeam for digital takeoffs, and sharpen your negotiation skills while helping shape winning proposals. Good communication is a must — you'll be talking with everyone from teammates to vendors to keep project pursuits moving smoothly.

Our primary internal scope of work (what you'll be taking off) is Plumbing & Hydronics. But we also include the entire Mechanical scope through our sub-trade partners (HVAC, Controls, Insulation, Sprinkler etc.).

What You Bring

• A mechanical background is a huge plus (primarily plumbing & hydronics)
• You're a solid communicator who works well with others
• You've got Bluebeam experience (or you're ready to get good at it fast)
• You can hold your own in a negotiation
• You get the basics of project management
• Bonus points if you're comfortable in Excel or Google Sheets

What the Job Actually Looks Like

Digging into the Scope of Work
Every project starts with the Scope of Work — basically the master list of everything that needs to happen. You'll read it closely, and if something's missing or unclear, you'll send off RFIs to get answers before moving forward.

Getting Eyes on the Site
Numbers on paper only tell you so much and sometimes you need to go see the site yourself. You're checking things like: How hard is it to get materials in and out? Is the terrain going to slow things down or require extra equipment? What's the weather like, and what time of year are we working in? All of this affects labor, equipment, and cost.

Counting Everything (Takeoffs)
Using the drawings, specs, and Scope of Work, you'll do a detailed quantity takeoff — basically figuring out exactly how much material, labor, and equipment the job needs. Bluebeam is your best friend here.

Crunching the Numbers
Once you know what's needed, you calculate the hard costs (materials, labor) and soft costs (overhead, margin) to build out a full cost picture. This is where your estimate really comes together — and where accuracy really matters, since it directly affects whether the project makes sense financially.

Working the Phones (and Emails)
You'll be in regular contact with vendors and subcontractors, getting pricing, reviewing bids, and negotiating scope and cost. This is where your communication and negotiation skills get put to work.

Helping People Make the Call
At the end of the day, your job is to hand decision-makers — PMs, clients, whoever — pricing they can actually trust so they can make a smart call on whether to move forward.

Staying Sharp
The industry doesn't sit still — materials, tech, and costs are always shifting. You'll stay in the loop and keep adapting how you estimate as things change.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $60,000.00-$75,000.00 per year

Education:

• AEC / DEP or Skilled Trade Certificate (preferred)

Experience:

• Plumbing: 1 year (preferred)
• Google Sheets / Excel: 1 year (preferred)
• Bluebeam: 1 year (preferred)
• Blueprint reading: 1 year (preferred)
