This position requires a Monday, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 8am-5pm.
Overview:
We are seeking a skilled and dedicated person to join our medical team. As a Podiatry Medical Assistant, you will play a crucial role in providing quality patient care and ensuring the smooth operation of our practice, in a private office setting.
Duties:
- Assist with patient intake and documentation, including updating medical records and verifying insurance information, some appointment scheduling
- Prepare patients for exams and procedures
- Assist as needed with procedures
- Sterilization of medical equipment
- Collect and prepare lab specimens
- Perform x-rays of the foot and ankle
Experience:
- Previous experience working in a hospital or medical setting is preferred
- Familiarity with electronic health records (EHR) systems. EPIC is a huge plus.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
- Strong attention to detail and ability to multitask effectively
Duties and Responsibilities
- Greet patients on the phone and in person
- Place patients in the exam rooms
- Assist and setup up for examination, treatment, and procedures
- Keep accurate patient files
- Apply dressing, bandages, and splints as ordered by podiatrist
- Dispense durable medical equipment
- Maintain a sanitized and safe working environment
- Maintain HIPAA
Requirements
- Critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work unsupervised or with minimal supervision
- Strong computer skills and use of Microsoft Office
- Strong communication skills and ability to actively listen
- Knowledge of medical terminology and anatomy
- Strong organizational and clerical skills to maintain patient files and perform office duties
- Customer services skills
- Knowledge of safety and sanitation procedures
- Reliable and punctual
Education and Experience
- High School Diploma or Equivalent
- Certification from an approved medical assistant program or equivalent combination of training
- EPIC experience is a plus
A podiatry medical assistant is one whom specializes in ankle and foot care. Medical assistants keep the medical office running efficiently and take on many tasks. A podiatry medical assistant’s responsibility may include ordering, sorting, storing supplies and restocking exam rooms. Cleaning exam areas, setting up instruments and equipment and cleaning the sterilizer. Greeting patients, answering the office phones, performing data entry and scheduling appointments, assisting front office staff if and when needed and manual insurance verifications. Any other duties determined appropriate by management or lead medical assistant.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Prepares patients for examination by interviewing patient and recording medical history into Epic
- Escorting patients to and from exam rooms
- Complying with OSHA and HIPPA regulations
- Help the physician with procedures
- Casting for Orthotics
- Appling Low Dying strapping to feet
- Dressing changes
- Performing X-Rays
- Documenting phone calls
- Dispense/fit orthotics and other Durable medical equipment
- Returning Patient Messages; Completing In-Baskets
- Updating Logs
Qualifications
High School diploma or equivalent required.
Preferences
At least one (1) year of experience preferred, Medical Assistant Certification is preferred, Epic experience is preferred.
Physical Demands
The physical demands described are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee must communicate professionally and courteously with patients and clinic staff. Employee must be able to sit for at least an hour at a time. Employee must be able to stand and walk for up to 20 minutes at a time. Employee is required to assist with rooming patients, filing, and other basic office tasks to include keeping office environment and waiting room clean. This will require the ability to bend, stoop, and lift up to 5-10 lbs. The position requires the ability to utilize the computer and keyboard for long periods of time.
Work Requirements
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, bend, reach and squat. Employee duties will frequently require computer usage including the ability to type as well as verbally communicate with patients and co-workers. Occasional lifting up to 30lbs.
