About the role

We are looking for an experienced medical transcriptionist to support the gastroenterology service based at Dunedin Hospital.

This is a role that will provide an opportunity to demonstrate outstanding coordination skills, your ability to work autonomously, and also use your initiative. This is a demanding role working with a high level of administration tasks and interfacing with a large multidisciplinary team.

After orientation to the role, you will be dealing with patient information to transcribe operation notes and clinical letters within certain timeframes. You will be working within a supportive multi-disciplinary team consisting of several health disciplines. Our transcriptionists all work together providing a fun and friendly atmosphere.

The work required to be undertaken is fast paced and you will be working to strict deadlines. It relies heavily on technology, therefore you must be confident around computer systems and Dictaphones; with the ability to type accurately with high attention to detail. You must also be conscious of working with the utmost discretion as you'll be privy to patient information. You may be required to assist other departments for staff leave or if another department is struggling to meet their typing deadlines.

About you

This role requires someone with a typing speed of at least 70 words per minute and ideally you will have medical typing experience or be an excellent typist with an interest in the health field. Since you'll be dealing with patient information it is essential that you show us you have high attention to detail.

Our ideal candidate will have the following:

  • Previous experience working in a busy administration role
  • Experience with Dicatphone typing
  • Strong computer system knowledge
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Competency with te ao Māori, tikanga, and te reo Māori or a commitment to starting your journey and taking ownership of your learning and growth
  • Experience in projects / initiatives which give effect to Te Tiriti principals and frameworks, and the application of Mātauranga Māori and Kaupapa Māori approaches, particularly as they apply in healthcare settings

Salary range

This role is covered by the terms and conditions of the PSA South Island Clerical Multi-Employer Collective Agreement and the salary will be in accordance with the National Health Administration Workers Pay Scale, Band 3B between $65,627 and $70,724 p.a dependant on relevant experience.
