The Member Services Representative at Southwest Louisiana Electric Membership Corporation (SLEMCO) plays a vital role in delivering exceptional service to our members in Lafayette, LA. This position focuses on providing courteous, accurate, and efficient assistance through both phone and in-person inquiries, ensuring that members fully understand their accounts and the billing process. Professionals in this role are tasked with promptly addressing member inquiries, resolving complaints, and making necessary account adjustments while maintaining meticulous attention to detail. Responsibilities include managing pre-bill reports, processing meter exchanges, and handling disconnection notices for non-payment.
By fostering positive relationships through effective communication and problem-solving, the Member Services Representative ensures the integrity of account information and contributes to a respectful and professional atmosphere within the organization. Additional duties may be assigned by the Member Services Supervisor, allowing for a dynamic and engaging work experience.
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR IN A MEMBER SERVICE REPRESENTATIVE
To excel as a Member Services Representative at Southwest Louisiana Electric Membership Corporation (SLEMCO), candidates must possess a diverse skill set that enhances their effectiveness in providing outstanding member service. A high school diploma or equivalent is required, along with excellent active listening and communication skills to understand and address member inquiries effectively. Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Word and Excel, and the ability to troubleshoot software and hardware issues are essential for daily operations. A solid understanding of accounting principles and basic math, including arithmetic and algebra, is necessary for handling billing inquiries accurately. Candidates should be adept with a 10-key calculator and general office equipment.
The ability to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and work independently is crucial for success in this role. Strong customer service orientation and teamwork skills are also vital, as representatives collaborate to foster positive member relationships and resolve issues promptly. Working conditions may require flexibility, including potential evening, weekend, or holiday shifts.
Knowledge and skills required for the position are:
Required:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Excellent active listening and communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word & Excel) and comfort troubleshooting software/hardware issues.
- Strong understanding of accounting principles and basic math including arithmetic and algebra.
- Proficient with 10-key calculator, computer, and general office equipment.
- Ability to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and work independently.
- Accurate and efficient in generating and interpreting computer reports.
- Strong customer service orientation and teamwork skills.
Working Conditions & Physical Demands:
- May be required to work evenings, weekends, holidays, or during emergencies as needed.
- Work is primarily performed in an office environment with moderate noise.
- Requires hand-eye coordination and fine motor skills for computer and office equipment use.
- Must be able to push, pull, lift, and/or carry up to 20 pounds.
- Must have strong listening skills and the ability to communicate effectively in person and by phone.
