Job Responsibilities
Under limited supervision of the School Mental Health Coordinator, employee will perform direct School Mental Health services. You will provide a therapeutic program, including prevention and early intervention with youth at risk for social, emotional, behavioral, and/or academic difficulties in designated Spartanburg County Schools in District 5. Increase collaborative efforts between SAMHC, the School Districts, and community organizations all in the implementation process. Provide services in a culturally sensitive manner. Assist direct supervisor with task of increasing public
awareness and appropriate utilization and appropriate utilization of School Mental Health.
Responsibilities for the Mental Health Professional I:
- Provide Assessment, Individual, Group and Family Therapy services, as well as intake and ongoing assessment, to child, adolescents, and adult SAMHC patients. Develop, implement, monitor, and modify treatment plans. Provide Case Management and ancillary services.
- Provide consultation, education, and prevention strategies to families, school personnel etc., relating to community mental health issues. Develop and implement training for staff as requested.
- Maintain client charts according to requirement of current Quality Assurance manual and assures high quality services have been provided in a culturally sensitive manner to the clients. Maintain compliance with all local state, and federal Corporate Compliance laws. Adhere to all Corporate compliance, outcome evaluation, research, and continuity of care policies and procedures. Maintain documentation of clinical services in accordance with State/Center quality Assurance standards.
- Attend and participate in requires/mandated trainings, supervisory sessions, departmental general staffing, interagency staffing, treatment meetings, and other scheduled meetings as required by the school and Mental Health Center.
Minimum and Additional Requirements
- A master's degree in guidance, counseling, the social science, or related field.
- In order to be credentialed for core services as a Mental Health Professional at the SC Office of Mental Health, applicants must provide evidence of clinical experience providing direct patient care. This experience may be documented as a practicum or internship during graduate program, or post-graduate clinical experience. Please be sure to provide specific clinical activities on your application and/or resume.
Preferred Qualifications
- Licensure is strongly preferred.
- Bilingual abilities in English and Spanish (or another language) are a plus

- Have knowledge of normal and abnormal behavior, casework practices, and interviewing techniques.

- Have knowledge of methods, principles, and practices of clinical counseling and education services, along with the ability to apply this knowledge.
- Have ability to organize and maintain a caseload, and effectively plan, coordinate, and manage complex treatment interventions.
- Have the ability to exercise judgement and discretion in delivering clinical services in the school and clinic setting.
