THE ROLE

skills, can merchandise as well as cashier, cares deeply about the welfare of cats, is

passionate about the goals, mission, and vision of MEOW Foundation, and enjoys working

The position reports to the Thrift Shop Manager.

POSITION DETAILS

Front of store

- Greet and assist customers in a friendly and kind manner.

- Ring customers’ purchases through the till, handle cash and wrap/box items.

- Take a proactive approach to organize, clean and stock the store with retail, MEOW

made, MEOW Merch and Thrift items.

- Inform customers about MEOW Foundation’s mission, programs, and events.

- Price and tag items neatly as well as upkeep of displays.

- Answer customer questions about the MEOW Thrift donation process, volunteer

involvement, current sales, and upcoming events.

- General housekeeping: sweeping; dusting; mopping; vacuuming.

- Address customer complaints and feedback in a kind and professional manner.

- Answer the phone and provide information as needed.

- Scan and alert management of potential security and/or safety issues.

Receiving

- Receive donations, lift items up to 50 lbs, and carry items up and down stairs.

- Greet and provide information to donors.

- Clean, test, and sort donations.

- Package items safely and ensure they are suitable and desirable for resale.

General

- Research and price items.

- Ensure all Occupational Health and Safety policies are adhered to, and safety

procedures are followed to a high standard.

- Submit time-sheets in an accurate and timely manner.

- Clean donated goods.

- Take out the garbage.

- Being punctual and committed to working all scheduled shifts.

- Clean and tidy bathroom, utility sink and cleaning areas.

WORKING CONDITIONS

- This is a part-time position, approximate hours 10-25 hours/week

- Daily, this position requires the incumbent to sit, pull, push, crouch, stand

bend, scoop, carry walk, kneel, reach overhead, and lift up to 50 lbs.

- Able to work in small spaces and in close proximity to other staff.

QUALIFICATIONS

- Keen interest to help MEOW foundation provide cat care through Thrift shop sales.

- Strong customer service orientation.

- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.

- Responsible and punctual.

- Organized and detail oriented.

- Multi-task and problem-solve as needed.

- Self-starter and curious learner, with a passion for continually improving.

- Can work independently or with the team.

- Diplomatic, patient, and confident to help resolve issues and communicate kindly

and effectively with others.

- Highly developed cooperation and collaboration skills. Exceptionally organized.

- Compassionate, mature, thoughtful judgement and behaviour.

- Computer literacy.

About MEOW

Established in 2000, MEOW Foundation is a cat-specific registered not-for-profit organization with a no-kill mandate. MEOW is the only organization in Calgary that offers four foundational programs.

1) Rescue and Adoption provides food, shelter and medical care to stray and abandoned

cats in Calgary and facilitates their adoption into new, loving permanent homes.

2) Subsidized Spay Neuter Assistance Program (SNAP) for Calgarian’s in-need to assist with

the cost of spay and neuter.

3) Trap Neuter Return (TNR) Program for feral cats.

4) Cat Food Assistance (CFA) is a temporary support program if you are in need of cat or

kitten food.

Through our programs, we advocate for responsible, compassionate animal care and assist over 2500 cats each year. MEOW is a well-respected member of the animal rescue and services community in Calgary and works closely with other local and Alberta based groups to change the lives and provide a future for abandoned and mistreated companion animals.

Pay: $15.00-$15.01 per hour
