Service: Womens Health Service

Contract: Permanent Part Time or Fixed Term

Mō tō mātou rōpū - About our team

Wellington Hospital Maternity Unit is a purpose-built, busy unit catering for the needs of women and their whanau. There are 12 self-contained, fully equipped labour and birthing rooms, and an operative theatre onsite. The antenatal and postnatal ward has 26 resourced beds. The team includes midwives, obstetric medical doctors, anaesthetists, healthcare assistants, administration officers and cleaners. In our fast-paced environment we have to work closely together to get the best results for those we are caring for.

Kōrero mō te tūranga - About the role

The midwife educator role is primarily focused on skill development and education for midwives, nurses, and HCAs in the Women's Health Service. There is an opportunity for a permanent 0.6 fte role requiring clinical shifts and an on call component (as needed).

The midwife educator is comfortable working across the full scope of practice providing care and oversight to women, babies and staff in the clinical area as a skilled professional resource.

Duties

  • Develops and delivers the MCNZ recertification programme
  • Maintains education plan for all midwives, nurses and HCAs within the WHS
  • Lead staff meetings appropriate to role
  • Provide support and advice to maximise contribution to the MDT
  • Maintain own professional portfolio of practice and core competencies
  • Actively participate in performance review and QLP processes
  • Actively supports staff in their requirements to progress on QLP/PDRP
  • Works alongside staff in an educational capacity as needed
  • Develop and audit specialty standards for area
  • Demonstrate an action plan for introducing a practice innovation and/or new technology
  • Collaborate in the review of reportable events and complaints, identify and address gaps in practice
  • Work directly with women, babies and staff in the clinical area as an expert resource, coach and role model
  • Active participation in the service quality improvement group
  • Complies with responsibilities under the Health and Safety Work Act 2015
  • Participate/lead service risk minimisation activities
  • Comply with C&CDHB reportable events policy and other policies and procedures.
  • Collaborates to ensure policies, protocols and procedures are current
  • Orientates staff to service

Moū - About you

The successful applicant will need to be registered with the Midwifery Council of New Zealand and have a current APC.

It would be advantageous to have:

  • Master - s Degree in Midwifery or evidence of working towards Master - s Degree in Midwifery
  • Certificate in Clinical Teaching would be an advantage
  • Experience across the scope of midwifery; LMC experience would be an advantage
  • Experience in a leadership position
  • On the quality leadership programme at leadership level or prepared to attain within 6 months
