Wallace Mobile Homes Ltd. is seeking a Mobile Home Quality & Testing Technician to join our workshop and yard team.

The successful candidate will be responsible for inspecting, testing and quality-checking mobile homes before they are delivered to customers or holiday parks.

The role will focus on identifying defects early, completing snagging and testing, and ensuring each mobile home meets the required standard before it leaves the yard.

The successful candidate will work closely with the workshop, transport and aftersales teams to ensure problems are identified and resolved at the correct stage of the process.

This is a hands-on position and would suit someone who takes pride in their work, has good attention to detail and enjoys practical problem-solving.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

Quality & Inspection

  • Carry out detailed inspections of new and used mobile homes.
  • Identify defects, damage, incomplete work and areas requiring attention.
  • Complete snagging inspections in line with company procedures.
  • Ensure defects are recorded clearly and accurately.
  • Check that completed work meets the required quality standard.
  • Identify recurring defects and report them to management.

Testing

  • Carry out pre-delivery testing of mobile homes.
  • Test plumbing systems, pipes, valves, taps and appliances.
  • Check for leaks and ensure water systems are operating correctly.
  • Test appliances and other installed equipment.
  • Carry out electrical and functional checks where trained and authorised to do so.
  • Ensure appliances and services are operating correctly before sign-off.
  • Re-test items following repairs or remedial work.

Mobile Home Preparation

  • Ensure mobiles are fully checked before being released for delivery.
  • Check that snagging and remedial work has been completed.
  • Ensure all required components, fixtures and fittings are present.
  • Check internal and external areas for damage or defects.
  • Ensure the mobile is presented to the required company standard.
  • Complete final quality checks before the mobile moves to delivery.

Lean & Continuous Improvement

  • Follow standardised work procedures and checklists.
  • Identify unnecessary movement, waiting, rework and duplication.
  • Highlight recurring problems and suggest improvements.
  • Help reduce defects being passed to the next stage of the process.
  • Contribute to improving the efficiency of the testing and snagging process.
  • Maintain an organised and clean working area in line with 5S principles.
  • Follow the principles of Lean wherever possible.

Records & Communication

  • Complete testing and inspection documentation accurately.
  • Record defects and remedial work carried out.
  • Communicate outstanding issues to the relevant team member.
  • Clearly identify mobiles that are ready for delivery and those requiring further work.
  • Report any safety, quality or technical concerns to management.
  • Work as part of a team to ensure mobiles move through the preparation process efficiently.

Eligibility & Requirements

Essential

  • Previous experience in a practical, maintenance, construction, workshop or similar environment.
  • Good practical skills and the ability to use basic hand tools.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Good problem-solving ability.
  • Ability to follow procedures, checklists and instructions.
  • Ability to identify defects and determine when work is not completed to the required standard.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Good organisational skills.
  • Reliable and punctual.
  • Full driving licence would be an advantage.

Desirable

  • Plumbing experience.
  • Electrical experience.
  • Carpentry or general construction experience.
  • Appliance testing or installation experience.
  • Previous experience in quality control or inspection.
  • Experience using digital job management systems.
  • Previous experience working within a Lean or 5S environment.

Training

Full training will be provided on Wallace Mobile Homes' testing, snagging and quality procedures.

Additional training may be provided in areas including:

  • Plumbing and water systems.
  • Appliance testing.
  • Mobile home construction and components.
  • Quality control procedures.
  • Company testing and snagging standards.
  • Health & safety.
  • Lean/5S working practices.

Important: Employees must only carry out electrical, plumbing or other specialist testing within the limits of their training, competence and authorisation.
