We don’t sit back and wait for the future to happen, we are out there crafting our own path through new technology, innovation, and investment. We are truly a challenger brand, with challenger spirit.
We are seeking a Technical Specialist to join our Mobile Voice Platform Engineering team, responsible for the planning, design, growth, and performance of Optus’ 4G and 5G mobile voice switching platforms.
This role will lead the end-to-end management of platforms, including lifecycle and capacity management, roadmaps, vendor governance, procurement, budgeting, and high-level design through to deployment. Acting as a technical lead, you will drive the delivery of projects in collaboration with stakeholders across the mobile engineering domain.
With strong expertise in mobile voice services, virtualised and cloud-native functions, and cloud environments (including both private and public cloud deployments), you will provide both strategic direction and hands-on technical management across IMS, signalling core, voicemail, and related platforms. Strong financial and influencing skills are crucial, as this senior role combines technical leadership with financial and business accountability.
Ready to reimagine your career at Optus?
Lead technical strategy and planning through developing and maintaining roadmaps, architecture, standards, and evolution plans for mobile voice core platforms.
Manage budgets and programs to prepare and deliver AOP activities, capital submissions, cost reviews, and procurement (RFP/RFI, tenders, purchase orders).

Drive delivery and implementation through managing high-level design, deployment, equipment installations, and workflow improvements to ensure quality and efficiency.
Engage business partners and vendors and act as the prime technical interface for upgrades, new technology introduction, product assessments, governance meetings, and contract negotiations.
Ensure compliance and governance by maintaining WHS standards, inventory matrix, vendor governance, and end-of-life/obsolescence management across platforms.
It starts with you!
Relevant professional qualifications in Telecommunications Engineering or related field, together with equivalent technical qualification.
Proven hands-on experience in mobile telecommunications across 4G and 5G, with extensive platform knowledge (IMS Core, Voicemail, Core Signalling, Application Servers, etc.).
Proven experience in mobile core platform design, roadmap development, lifecycle management, capacity planning, and deployment of VNFs/CNFs in virtual/cloud environments.
Strong background in supplier engagement, tenders, proposals, pricing negotiations, and statement of work preparation.
Excellent communication and engagement skills up to executive level, with the ability to lead teams, think strategically, and drive business outcomes.
