Description:
Maintenance & Construction Duties

This position is primely for relief in Multiple depots across Council that create short fall when staff are on leave or absent and will be required to start at multibile locations across Council.
Footpath and Street sweeping. Operating street sweepers and compact sweepers.
Street bin collection across Council. Operating compact garbage compactor.
Carry out road maintenance / construction duties as required.

Maintenance of parks and gardens, recreation reserves, town streetscapes and roadsides.
Public convenience maintenance i.e. toilets, Barbeques.
Repairs to footpath and kerb & channel, including removal and replacement of small lots.
Concrete grinding.
Cleaning and repairs to urban and rural drainage system, including pits.
Other roadway/street maintenance and/or cleaning as required.
Participate in Councils after hours’ call out phone and standby system.
The maintenance of strict confidentiality in any matter, which may affect Council’s ability to negotiate effectively with suppliers and/or contractors.
Other duties as may be directed from time to time.

Plant and Equipment Operation & Maintenance

Operation of assigned Plant and Equipment relevant to the task and skill level.
Ensure that daily routine maintenance on assigned plant and equipment is carried out; record and report any faults.
Ensure that all assigned plant and equipment is returned to a depot, or otherwise securely stored at end of shift.
Undertake minor repairs to assigned plant and equipment.
Report daily, any observed damage to Council assets.

Occupational Health and Safety

Ensure all works are carried out within relevant OH&S guidelines.
Participate in knowledge/ skills developmental training, or OH&S training as directed.
Installation of warning signs, safety lights and barricades at work sites.
Accurately record daily work activities for reporting to Team Leader/Leading Hand
Erection and maintenance of traffic control devices, street signs and guideposts etc.
Some work activities for this role may represent a high-risk exposure to crystalline silica dust.
Silica dust can be harmful when its inhaled into your lungs. Exposure can lead to fatal diseases including silicosis, lung cancer, kidney disease and autoimmune disease.
To control the exposure to crystalline silica dust Moira Shire Council will apply the hierarchy of controls, seeking first to eliminate that risk as far as is reasonably practicable. If a risk cannot be eliminated it will be reduced so far as is reasonably practicable by implementing substitution, isolation, using engineering controls and if a risk remains by using administrative controls and providing appropriate personal protective equipment

Skills and Experiences:

Trade qualification or proven experience in Civil Construction, Concreting, Horticulture/Landscaping or related field.
Drivers licence (minimum heavy rigid)
Demonstrated experience in civil works or parks and gardens maintenance
Ability to perform various tasks involving heavy lifting, climbing into high cabins of plant, climbing to secure loads, etc
