Fiber Optic Technician

Vickery Technical Services is hiring an experienced Fiber Optic Technician.

Employment Type: Permanent, Full Time

Salary $25 - $37 Per Hour

Number of positions available: 1

Requirements:

Position Overview

We are seeking a motivated Fiber Optic Technician who has a strong interest in expanding their career into the electrical trade and CFAA (Canadian Fire Alarm Association) certification. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys hands-on technical work and wants a clear pathway toward becoming a licensed electrician and fire alarm technician.

Key Responsibilities

  • Install, terminate, test, and troubleshoot fiber optic cabling (single-mode and multi-mode)
  • Perform fusion splicing, connectorization, and testing (OTDR, power meter, light source)
  • Read and interpret drawings, schematics, and specifications
  • Assist with structured cabling and low-voltage systems
  • Support electrical installations under supervision as training progresses
  • Assist with fire alarm system installation, verification, and service (as trained)
  • Maintain accurate documentation, test results, and as-built drawings
  • Follow all safety procedures and company policies
  • Communicate professionally with clients, supervisors, and team members

Required Qualifications

  • Experience as a fiber optic technician or similar low-voltage role
  • Basic understanding of fiber optic systems and testing procedures
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
  • Strong work ethic, attention to detail, and willingness to learn
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Comfortable working at heights and on job sites

Assets (Not Required but an Advantage)

  • Previous electrical or construction experience
  • Knowledge of fire alarm systems
  • CFAA registration or willingness to enroll
  • Experience with structured cabling (CAT5e/CAT6)
  • First Aid, Working at Heights, or other safety certifications
