About the Role
Hauora a Toi Bay of Plenty has this opportunity for a Newborn Hearing Screener to join the team. This is a permanent part-time position working 48 hours per fortnight.
The Bay of Plenty District Newborn Hearing Service is part of the National Universal Newborn Hearing Screening and Early Intervention Program (National Screening Unit – Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora).

- Competency with te ao Māori, tikanga, and te reo Māori or a commitment to starting your journey and taking ownership of your learning and growth
- Experience in projects / initiatives which give effect to Te Tiriti principals and frameworks, and the application of Mātauranga Māori and Kaupapa Māori approaches, particularly as they apply in healthcare settings
Previous newborn hearing screening experience would be advantageous, but not essential as full training is provided to complete the New Zealand Certificate in Health and Wellbeing Level 3 (Newborn Hearing Screening).
There is an expectation that, initially, time will be spent outside the Bay of Plenty in another District for this training, which then continues as District-based training. The successful candidate will have excellent oral and written communication skills, along with a sound knowledge of all Windows based applications. An ability to work effectively in a demanding team environment, initiative and excellent time management skills are other attributes which will be highly regarded. Experience in being around mothers and their babies is important. As part of this role the successful candidate will engage with parents, and handle their baby to perform the hearing screen, give the result to parents, record and collect data, and liaise with professionals. Availability to work additional hours to cover periods of leave would be advantageous.
