About the role

We are looking for a flexible and motivated News Reporter to join our Ireland team on a fixed-term maternity cover contract based in Dublin.

This is a fantastic opportunity for a journalist who thrives on breaking news, generating compelling original stories and covering a diverse range of topics across the Republic of Ireland, and occasionally Northern Ireland, from politics and courts to human interest and live events.

Working closely with colleagues across Ireland and PA’s news desks in London, you’ll be expected to file fast, fair and accurate copy, and supplement your reporting with strong multimedia content. The role offers challenge, variety, and the chance to contribute across words, video and pictures.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver fast, accurate and legally sound coverage of news stories across the Republic of Ireland and, when required, Northern Ireland
• Generate original content and break agenda-setting exclusives
• Produce high-quality multimedia content including copy, video and pictures
• Use social media effectively to source, gather and promote stories
• Build and maintain strong news contacts
• Collaborate closely with colleagues across Ireland and in London to deliver impactful content
• Engage with PA customers as required

What you will need

• Experience reporting for a news agency, national or regional daily newspaper or broadcast outlet
• A proven ability to deliver fast, accurate and compelling copy
• Experience reporting in the courts
• A recognised journalism qualification (NCTJ or equivalent)
• Sound knowledge of media law
• Fast and accurate shorthand
• A full, clean driving licence and access to a vehicle during the day
• A flexible approach to travel across Ireland and working evenings and weekends
• Experience shooting and editing video (desirable)
