Job Summary
As a Registered Nurse specializing in Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), you will be responsible for providing specialized nursing care to newborns who are ill or premature. Your role will involve closely monitoring the infants' conditions, administering medications, and collaborating with a multidisciplinary team to ensure the best possible care for these vulnerable patients.
Duties
- Provide direct patient care to newborns in the NICU
- Monitor vital signs and assess the infants' conditions
- Administer medications and treatments as prescribed
- Operate and maintain specialized equipment used in the NICU
- Educate parents on caring for their newborns and provide emotional support
- Collaborate with physicians and other healthcare professionals to develop and implement care plans
- Document all patient interactions and interventions accurately

- Unit/ NICU Level: NICU - level 3
- # beds: 19
- Certs: BLS, NRP required
- Ratios: 1:1, 1:2
- EMR: Cerner power chart
- Charge Nurse: Yes - They do not take a patient assignment
- Nurse Aides: No
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
- Holidays: Yes 1 major, 1 minor for both winter and summer holidays
- Scrub Color: Navy
- Tele/Monitor tech: GE Space labs
- Strips: yes - nurses must be able to read strips
- Drips: anything and everything
- Vents: yes
- Neonatologist in house: no
- IV Team: No
- RT 24/7: Yes
- Pharmacy 24/7: Yes
- Shifts: 12 hr shifts- 0645-1915, 1845-0715
- Floating: Must float to peds and PICU, they would be given a patient assignment within their scope
- Floor specific orientation: 1-2 shifts on unit, they may also get a third split shift of orientation on PICU and peds
- Common diagnosis / Types of patients: Neonatal intensive care patients that are non-cardiac - vented, oxygen dependent, feeder-growers, no ECMO, pre-term infants
- Additional Notes: Perm staff are receptive to travelers, Travelers must have 2 years of experience or more, must also have level 3 NICU experience or more
