Nurse

Professional Responsibilities.

  • Practice Nursing according to the professional code as laid down by the Nursing Board ( An Bord Altranais).
  • Comply with all local policy, procedures and guidelines and current legislation.
  • Support the care philosophy, objectives and goals of the Nursing Home in order to deliver appropriate high quality service for residents and their families.
  • . Follow appropriate lines of authority within the nurse management structure.
  • Participate as an inter-disciplinary team member in all aspects of resident care.
  • Participate in the provision of a 24 hour continuity care programme for residents, rotating to night duty as applicable, and participating in a rotation system for weekend duty.
  • Demonstrate a high degree of motivation and assume responsibility for your own professional development and contribute to the development of others.
  • Promote good interpersonal relationships with service users, their families, social network supports and the interdisciplinary care team in accordance with ethical standards
  • Demonstrate flexibility by assisting in other areas of the home as required.
  • Participate in regular performance review with your line manager, identifying key performance objectives and appropriate plans/measures to achieve areas for improvement and appropriate plans/measures to achieve them in a supportive environment.
  • Respect and maintain the privacy, dignity and confidentiality of the resident and all of the nursing homes activities.

Clinical Responsibilities.

  • Assess, plan, implement and evaluate individualised care plans for residents within an agreed nursing model.
  • Administer prescribed medications in line with code of conduct in relation to administration of medications, and the Homes policy on administration of medications.
  • Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team in the co-ordination and delivery of care to residents.
  • Be an advocate for the individual resident and for his/her family. It also involves advocacy on behalf of nursing within the home and the management structures within which it is delivered.
  • Ensure that care is carried out in an empathetic and ethical manner that the dignity of the resident is given proper consideration.
  • Collaborate with the resident, their family, the interdisciplinary team to facilitate appropriate discharge planning and continuity of care.
  • Maintain appropriate and accurate written records and reports regarding residents in accordance with the Homes guidelines and within current legislation.
  • Participate in innovation and change in the approach to resident care delivery and contribute to service planning process, based on best practice and under the direction of the nursing director, particularly in relation to new research findings and advances in treatment.
  • Participate in the setting of professional standards. Understand and co-operate with the need to measure and audit the effectiveness of care given.
  • Participate in research programmes and understand the need for evidence based practice.
  • Participate in clinical audit and review.

Educational Responsibilities

  • Participate in the planning and implementation of orientation and teaching programmes for all nurses, care assistants.
  • Contribute to the identification of training needs pertinent to the clinical area.
  • Identify and contribute to the continual enhancement of learning opportunities in the clinical area.
  • Participate in the clinical /workplace induction of all new staff.
  • Assume responsibility for own learning and development needs and actively contribute to the learning and development of the interdisciplinary team.
  • Provide education and information to residents and their families.

Management Responsibilities

  • Take management responsibility for the home when required.
  • Delegate where appropriate to other members of the team.
  • Maintain effective interpersonal relationships with the residents, visitors and colleagues.
  • Communicate as appropriate with all staff and participate in ward meetings.
  • Manage the resources provided in an effective and economic nature.
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety, infection control and risk management procedures and participate in their development, to comply with the Homes policies and procedures.

General

  • Promote the good name of the nursing home.
  • Ensure that all information of confidential nature gained in the course of duty is not divulged.
  • Notify the Nursing Director or person in charge, as soon as possible of your inability to report for duty and also on your return to work from all periods of absence.
  • Ensure the security of the nursing home is maintained at all times.
  • Adhere to the Nursing home policies and procedures within the defined time scales.
  • Ensure all equipment is clean and well maintained.
  • Carry out any other tasks that may be reasonably assigned to you.
  • Be able to manage your own time effectively.
  • Hours of attendance will be as outlined in your contract of employment

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent

Pay: €21.00-€22.00 per hour

Expected hours: 12 per week
