Kaiarahi Nahi Nurse Specialist, TamaAriki Ora – Starship Māori Health

  • Fulltime (1FTE), Fixed term (12 months) position
  • Monday to Friday role
  • Based at Starship Hospital, Grafton, Auckland

Do you want to protect the integrity of whakapapa and uphold the divinity of our mokopuna in your mahi?

The Nurse Specialist – Kaiarahi Nahi role has a focus on Māori as a population group and requires dual expertise in Māori health advocacy and clinical practice.

This role works across the surgical planned care pathways and works collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams to provide expert advice, care coordination, resources and support healthcare professionals engaging with whānau Māori.

Nga Pūkenga Motuhake | Important Skills

We are looking for Māori registered nurses with:

  • A current NZ Practicing certificate and a passion to improve health outcomes for Māori.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years’ experience working in the either the Community or hospital setting
  • Knowledge of Te Ao Māori and understand the application of Te Tiriti o Waitangi in practice
  • Advanced clinical skills and the ability to coordinate complex care delivery for mokopuna and whānau
  • The ability to form strong, meaningful connections with mokopuna, whānau and kaimahi that acknowledges, protects and enhances their mana.

We provide health and disability services to more than half a million people living in central Auckland, regional services for Northland and greater Auckland, and specialist national services for the whole of New Zealand. Our main sites are Auckland City Hospital, Greenlane Clinical Centre and Starship Children’s Hospital, located in central Auckland.

Starship Child Health is a dedicated paediatric healthcare service and major teaching centre, providing mokopuna centric, whānau focussed and whānau led health care to neonates, children and young people throughout New Zealand and the South Pacific. Starship is a part of Te Toka Tumai | Auckland and is the only comprehensive children’s hospital in New Zealand serving a population of approximately 1 million children.
