About the role

The Patient at Risk (PaR) team is looking for a Paediatric nurse experienced in acute care or critical care who would like to extend their scope and develop their career pathway as a Nurse Specialist. The role involves working part time in PaR and part time in another acute setting.

The Patient at Risk (PaR) team is a nurse-led group within PICU solely focused on the management of children at risk of deterioration throughout Starship Hospital. The PaR model aims to proactively respond to deteriorating patients in a focused manner as well as provide a clear escalation pathway and response; the Nurse Specialist will be a key person supporting the ward teams to manage this.

About the Team

The Patient at Risk (PaR) team ensures children at risk of deterioration receive the right care at the right time and are cared for in the right place depending on their changing acuity. They foster effective working partnerships with primary medical and nursing ward teams in the timely management of deteriorating patients.

About you

  • facilitate collaboration between teams and provide coaching and education
  • have excellent communication skills and be able to navigate challenging situations.

To be successful in this role you will also:

  • have a minimum of 5 years clinical practice in an acute care setting post registration some of which should be at an advanced level
  • Have a current annual practicing certificate & are registered with the NZ nursing council
