General Description: Responsible for planning, coordinating, managing and administering the daily activities of nursing care services for an assigned area and assuring proper staff coverage
Essential Job Duties:
- Directs and supervises the nursing and patient care services in assigned area(s)
- Facilitates development of the nursing services mission, goals, policies, procedures, budgets and work standards
- Utilizes a multidisciplinary approach in the provision of nursing services
- Assures standards of nursing practice, policies and procedures are compliant with the Pennsylvania State Board of Nursing and all applicable regulatory agencies
- Prepares and administers nursing area operating and capital budgets
- Compiles and analyzes data, prepares and presents statistical information on department performance, productivity, activity, performance improvement and budget administration
- Maintains knowledge of trends and developments in the field of nursing and clinical practice
- Schedules, assigns and monitors staff activities
- Develops, implements, monitors and reports Performance Improvement/Quality Assurance activities
- Oversees patient needs and suggestions and resolves patient care problems
- Participates in the hiring, promoting, disciplining and terminating of personnel
- Interacts with Human Resources in resolving complex employee relation problems. Attends labor management meetings as requested
- Ensures the development and delivery of nursing education to staff
- Evaluates the performance and competency of employees by monitoring individual work performance
- Maintains properly operating medical equipment and supplies
- Monitors and reports operating activity of the department such as workload, staff productivity, census data, revenue and expenses within the core values of the hospital
- Participates in monthly Nurse Leadership meetings
- Conducts monthly staff conferences on all shifts
- Conducts special projects and studies as directed
- Performs other duties as directed
Work/Education requirements:
- Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing with a current Pennsylvania license.
- Bachelor’s degree in Nursing, Health Care Administration or Business Administration.
- Must possess effective interpersonal and communication skills.
- Minimum of five years of progressive nursing experience. Previous management experience is preferred.
