Description:
Applications are now invited from suitably qualified professionals for appointment to the role of Occupational Health and Safety Manager at Housing Choices Australia (HCA). The successful candidate will assume responsibility for providing strategic and operational leadership of the organisation’s OHS function. Reporting to the Director of Human Resources, the position holder works closely with business leaders to promote a safe, healthy and psychologically fit for purpose workplace.
What you'll do
In this business critical and highly visible role, the appointee will develop and implement an organization wide Work Health and Safety Strategy and system inclusive of an annual plan, updated policy suite, ongoing education activities and review mechanisms. In addition to championing excellence through visible leadership, the successful candidate will act a specialist contact point for OHS enquiries, triaging issues and escalating risks or incidents as required. A key focus will be to work closely with key stakeholders and staff more broadly to ensure a coordinated approach to the management of health and safety risks. With expert knowledge of Workers’ Compensation and injury management, you will facilitate activities to enable the safe and timely return to work injured employees. An early opportunity to add value will be the development and implementation of a Psychosocial Safety program.
Skills and Experiences:
What you'll bring
Prospective applicants require tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline together with significant experience in leading OHS functions within complex, multi-site organisations. Significant experience in overseeing injury management and workers’ compensation matters including in relation to workplace stress is essential as is depth of knowledge of OHS Legislation, Regulations and Codes of Practice.
Demonstrated experience as an OHS Leader within a similar environment such as housing services and/or health care, aged care or alike would be a distinct advantage. Certification in RTW Coordination, Mental Health First Aid and OHS Consultation are required.
Candidates who can demonstrate professional registration as health practitioner are particularly encouraged to apply.
Naturally, you will possess outstanding communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to build awareness and understanding of OHS obligations across all levels in a multi site organisation. To this end, you will be adept at stakeholder management. We are particularly keen to hear from candidates with recent career experience in rolling out psychosocial safety frameworks across large staffing populations.
